The pilot pin plays a very important role in the effectiveness of your annular cutter. The pilot pin when functioning properly - centers the cutters accurately over the cutting area. During the cutting process the pilot pin retracts, allowing cutting oil and interanl coolant to lubricate the cutting surfaces. It also ejects the slug from the center of the cutter when complete - the slug is automatically ejected. Not all pilot pins are the same. Our pins are made using HSS01 grade steel right here in the USA, its as tough as your HSS cutters, but they work hard and wear often requiring replacement often before your cutter does.
