I have used Amazon since the early 2000s and have relied on user feedback to make my purchasing decisions. I have found that the Amazon community is right on. I have not, however, done my part to provide ratings to help others make their decisions. This is just one of many ratings that I have needed to provide. My strategy is to provide a numerical rating when there is not much more to say, except it worked as designed, was well made, and did not have any obvious flaws. I will provide more elaboration when needed to support a rating, good or bad. For this item, however, I think just a score will suffice.

Works as described

I wanted to use this to repair my existing power brick rather than buying an expensive new one. The barrel on my old one is bad. This barrel fits fine. However, when I cut the wire open I found that the wires inside were maybe 18 or 20 awg. That might be fine for some lesser power laptops, but mine is a beast that can suck up to 12 amps at a time. According to the charts and awg calculators I used, 20 awg isn't rated for 20v at 12 amp. 18 awg is barely rated for that at short distances, but the rest of my cable would it around 6 feet anyway, so it won't work. However, if your charger brick uses like 9 amps at 20 volts (180 watts), that's just around spec, and this is likely ok. Update: I was able to use a knife and heat gun to remove the plastic and epoxy around the barrel, and solder on new 14 gauge wires to the barrel myself. It was somewhat tricky, but still doable as a novice solderer. Would have been nice if the wires came with a better gauge so I didn't have to go through the trouble though.
