The Bible of Materials Planning
Uwe Goehring does an amazing job explaining how to successfully implement proper materials planning with his four pillars of inventory optimization. He speaks with obvious authority and mastery of the philosophy of operations management, logistics, and of course SAP. A book that intelligent on a subject matter full of pitfalls, misconceptions, and flawed mental models that can explain these topics in a fun, interesting, and easy way certainly deserves a read. At times I literally laughed out loud because The book has a great sense of humor.

A Treasure Trove! An invaluable companion on materials planning with SAP ERP
The book, Materials Planning with SAP, has perfectly nailed a complex and often ineffective way of implementing materials planning in SAP ECC. Uwe has captured the mindsets of stakeholders involved in materials planning - be it SAP consultants, the company’s management, materials or inventory planners - all playing crucial but unhelpful roles in getting the maximum ROI from their SAP ECC implementation. The book covers not just the features and functionality available to cater to different scenarios of materials and inventory planning but also lays a complete roadmap on how best to accomplish materials planning optimisation. Throughout in the book, it felt like a trusted advisor is sharing his infinite wisdom, actual projects’ experiences, lessons learned from the trenches and tips to avoid and prevent materials planning fires. Even the complex topics are very well explained in an easy-to-understand language and drawing references and concepts from various associated books such as ‘The Goal’, ‘The Theory of Constraints’ and the ‘Factory Physics’.While Uwe has convincingly shown on how much hidden and unexplored (and un-understood or misunderstood) treasure is already available SAP ECC, he also covers several materials add-ons to SAP ECC to make lives easier for materials planners.I received this book free from SAP PRESS as part of their book review program. I was not required to write a positive review, and the opinions I’ve expressed are my own.

The book is much more than a technical implementation guide for MRP and I would recommend it not only for PP consultants but als
I already knew Uwe's work from his blogs in SCN and I was very curious to read his book about materials planning when I was invited by SAP Press to review it. The book is much more than a technical implementation guide for MRP and I would recommend it not only for PP consultants but also for business users who actually work with MRP on a daily basis. It provides, for example, a guide to build a material portfolio, analyze exception messages and manage inventory. The book could go deeper on the technical aspects and configuration of MRP, nevertheless, it still a must have and I rate it with 5 stars.I received this book free from SAP PRESS as part of their book review program.
