Final Update...received replacement & it sparks just fine. Great customer service from them. Updating my star rating as well.Update...contacted them & sending a replacement out. Will see how new one is. Ferro pretty simple so not sure what the issue could be but will add another update.Original review...I usually use a Light My Fire ferro so not a beginner at using ferro rods. Scraped off the red on the rod, few tiny sparks as broke thru the coating. But I can't get a single spark from this rod now! Shaving pieces of metal, yes. Spark, no. I'll be returning it. Love the striker, hate the rod.

I love the striker that comes with this ferro rod! It is easy to use, easy to hold, and VERY effective. I normally use the spine of my knife to strike a ferro rod, but this striker tempts me to use it instead! And the rod itself is pretty big! Lots of life in it. It's pretty easy to scrape off the paint in an area and leave the rest covered to protect the rod, but I've never had mine corrode even when the paint is removed. My husband and I use these for teaching others bushcraft skills and this one is easy to use, even for beginners. A good firm connection will shower quite an array of sparks! Very effective!

I’ve tried several fire strikers and the only one I’d recommend to anyone is this one. Get it for your camping kits and for your go-bags.

The compact design along with the flame intensity for a quick first strike fire start is exemplary. Excellent design of materials and ergonomics.

Someday you might need this fire starter and believe me , it starts fires . It's simple to use but if you want , watch the video on how to use it and take care of it . I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great fire starter tool . I don't know how this tool could get any less than 5 stars unless the person using it doesn't know how to use it .

This is a great color for a ferro rod what i also do is i add a fluorescent paracord lanyard to it so if you misplace it in camp you can easily find it with a flashlight

Like that it comes with a carbide tipped striker, this makes a world of difference in the quality/quantity of sparks.Will keep this in my emergency "hurricane bag".

The coated rod is great, keeps the corrosion down. The scraper is amazing!

La longitud y el exelente raspador lo hacen una maravilla para emplearse...es mas adecuado para el campamento o car camping. Si eres "ultra light", este no es para ti....Se requiere practica para usar cualquier " ferro rod" y muy importante,tener todo el material ya cortado y listo para la fogata...
