Strongest Starter Deck, Great Variety
Oh man, we are officially hooked on Dice Masters in general because of this starter pack! We didn't realize that this was the strongest of the story lines (i.e. versus Age of Ultron, etc.), in the way of character significance, power of card abilities, and dice power. We bought Age of Ultron as well and were a little let down in how weak it was. It's unfortunate Wiz Kids (created of Dice Masters) failed their general audience with production long term because this game could be epic if it was still going strong! It's hard to find people to play in the area, and the creator of it lives in our city!! Anyway, if you're just playing casually- try this starter set! If you're a beginner, definitely buy this set before other ones. The booster packs for this line are also the most expensive, but luckily you can find single cards on other websites easily to build the rest of your deck. Pros: great variety, strength, power, and colors of dice. Cons: quality of dice are poor and sometimes misprinted, cards come bent in booster packs (weird since this is supposed to be a collector's game) Relatively easy to learn and play. Some strategy, some chance with rolling the dice. You can print the playmat online and save some money. Fun, fun, FUN!

Lives up to the hype
This is a great game along the lines of Magic the Gathering. It's a deckbuilder that uses dice, and the theme is well integrated. Essentially, you choose 8 characters and start out with weak sidekick/single energy dice. As you roll and use energy, you buy dice, build your "deck" and increase your strength. Using a pool of shared actions and characters' special abilities, you duel with your opponent. The cool thing about this game is that there are several flavors of each character. All use the same die but may have different costs or abilities. It's a cool mechanic. The setup takes a little bit of time, though part of that is the way my family plays. We alternate drafting characters because there are maybe a dozen strong characters that have to be split up for a competitive game. This isn't an issue with the base game, but it becomes one as you purchase additional cards ($1 per pack is great!) and accumulate more powerful rare cards.

Good game, poor WizKids production quality.
Fun collectible game that plays like a deck building game. Made by WizKids, which sadly means the product is WizKid quality which has been dropping for awhile now. The dice bags included in the starter sets are a joke. Really cheap paper bags, so if you plan on playing a decent amount, plan on getting a better dice bag. The character cards are also surprisingly low quality. But the worst, due to the game revolving around them, is the lackluster job they have put into the dice. Terrible paint jobs. Feels very lazily done. Like other WizKids products have felt lately. But still a fun game.

Great game, great set inside that game!
I love dice masters. It's a solid "MTG" type experience of game-play, but the collecting is cheaper, and you don't have to have the best of everything. Overall a solid quick filler game. I particularly like this set and the Uncanny X-Men set. They have different colors for some of the dice, but many share power/dice sides for the same character. This means they are super compatable, and you can use your uncanny Cyclops card with your Vs Avengers Cyclops dice and vice versa.

52 Year Old's Perspective
OK, my 16 year old son gave this to me for a birthday present so he would have someone to play with when none of his friends are available. I remember the Pokemon phase and, to be honest, I was none too excited about another kids card game. Then I started to learn this game, including watching a few online videos. Holy cow, this is a challenging strategy game. I have really enjoyed playing the game......an how often can a 52 year old find something enjoyable in common with the 16 year old crowd. He has the X-Man Dice Masters Pack. I beat him three out of four times and I think it's because I have a better base set of cards not because I am more skilled. If you enjoy strategy games then I highly recommend this game and I do recommend the Avengers vs. X-Men pack.

Great potential for customization...lots of fun.
Having spent an evening playing this with a friend, I am very intrigued by this game. Without getting into the rules here (you can find them elsewhere), I have to say that the level of customization gives this game awesome potential. It's pretty much like Quarriors, but with several important changes which give it great depth. First players have to decide not only which heroes to utilize, but which "flavor" of hero to play, as well as the max number of dice they will be allowed to use in total. Open ended rules allow for adjustment to HPs each player has to vary length of game. Tweaking each of the attributes can allow for significant differences in the games played. Additionally, the artwork is great on the cards and the dice are of improved quality over that of Quarriors. The dice bags are actually just paper envelopes, which was a little surprising. All in all, at a $15 price point this game is a no brainer buy.
