You cannot use wireless earbuds with this product. You can use your own wired ear buds or the buds that come with the product.

can i listen to the music without having the headphones plugged in?

If you are asking if you can hear the music playing without headphones, no. But if yo have an auxiliary jack (s)for your car stereo then I believe you could connect this player via the jack and listen to your CD's or even the radio for that matter. As an example, many of the newer vehicles today have one and sometimes more aux jacks in the car so family members can listen to music, etc. from their phones or other devices while traveling and without disturbing others in the car. These jacks are usually in the back seat area. If there is a jack in the front (in the main car stereo / radio, this jack would allow the music to be broadcast through the vehicles built-in speakers.
