I have an older rear projection tv that does not have an HDMI port. I want to cut the cable and was deciding on getting a newer smart tv so that I could plug in my Fire TV stick and use my Amazon prime. I researched the HDMI to Composite converters. I chose this one (a bit more expensive than others) due to reviews of it and other ones.I am giving this 3 stars for the following reasons - 1) it arrived in a non-descript brown box. 2) when I opened the box I got the impression it was a return (or at least it seemed like it - power cord seemed to have been retwist tied). 3) I connected it to the tv with the supplied RCA cables and connected the Fire TV stick. I got nothing on the tv. 4) I then connected the converter to the tv using the supplied s-video cable. I got a picture (colors were not right) but no audio. 5) my last attempt before I send it back - I used my own RCA cables - finally got the picture and audio.Since then I have not had any issues with the converter.

Bought this converter after trying another that didn't work for my purpose - hooking up a blu-ray player to an older tv. While it was a bit more expensive, I was pleased that it came both with clearly written instructions and the RCA cable needed to hook it up to my tv. Followed the simple instructions and it worked on the first try.

I need an HDMI-to-composite (analog/RCA) video converter to record Mpeg2 files of my video surveillance footage. The picture is pixel-y and the date/time-stamp is not clear. I googled for the best converter on the internet and this brand/model is what came up. There has to be something out there better than this. I connect this up to the HDMI out of my cable box and the image quality is akin to digital quality on 1080 dpi channels, if I stretch out the view on my TV. Just a slight bit of noticeable jaggies around outlines of persons but you have to look real close. Color saturation, contrast, and vibrancy is spot on. Really sharp. The only cons to this item are price and availability due to being sourced in China: quite expensive compared to other converter boxes and how long they will they be available, so I had to buy spares.

Outstanding. Tech experts at local big box appliance store said you couldn't convert from hdmi (out) to RCA (in). This product works exactly as advertised - thus, old, but still well functioning Panasonic plasma TV with no hdmi inputs can work just fine, at least with the new Wii U console. Haven't tried it yet with latest Comcast DVR, which they make with ONLY hdmi out.

Works as well as you can expect converting a 4k hdmi signal to s video. Text can be hard and sometimes impossible to read, and some things get cut off (resizing from 16:9 to 4:3 will do that)... but I'm too cheap to replace one of the tvs right now, and this works fine...

I found a old crt at goodwill so I decided to hook up my computer to it. Video quality is good and there is no noticeable delay when gaming. text is hard to read, but it's probably due to the rca cables im using I'll give an update when I get a higher quality cable.*update* i tried better cables, but still same image quality.

This is an earlier update of my review from my original purchase. The manufacturer was concerned with my dissatisfaction with their product and made a considerable effort to correct this. It is based on this effort that I agreed to try a second attempt at testing their product and found it to operate adequately although with limited functionality (no S-Video cable connection working). The AV cables connection worked perfectly and it also worked with my Chromecast device plugged into it which made it possible to wirelessly cast streaming content with my iPhone or laptop from the web to my analog TV with excellent results.
