What an amazing cake book !!!

I'm a big fan of the Life, Love, Sugar blog and eventually purchased the book. Although I won't use the recipes for ice cream cakes, I use the others often. They are always spot on and stunners.

I wanted to wait until I'd had this book for a while and was able to use several recipes. I think this book is beautifully written, easy to follow, and has some great recipes. I've recently had to go gluten free and was easily able to adapt each recipe. All of the cakes have been delicious, with the chocolat e mousse brownie cake and tiramisu cake being the fan favorites.My only complaint about this book is that the icings are unbearably sweet. For example, on the cinnamon roll cake I cut out the glaze icing and made it a naked cake instead of a fully iced cake, and still people had a hard time eating a whole piece. It was just so sweet it hurt your stomach. I've ended up making the majority of the cakes naked in order to cut down on the icing, but you can still tell the icing is too sweet.Overall, the cakes themselves are fantastic and, if you know what you're doing, you can reduce the amount of icing you use, but if you're the type who prefers smooth, buttery icing over super sweet, just be aware this book isn't the best for that.

Buy. This. Book.Buy two in case your first copy is stolen or lost or damaged by drooling on it.I cook. I don’t bake. Well, that is before I found Lindsay’s blog and book. I needed a festive Christmas cookie recipe for a party and happened upon Lindsay’s Life Love Sugar blog online. I made the White Chocolate Cranberry cookies and Snickerdoodles (recipes found online—not in book) and they were an instant crowd pleaser. With two notches in my baking belt I tried another online recipe....then another. Buying the book was a natural and tasty progression for this new-to-baking baker.The Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake is incredible as is the Key Lime Cheesecake and pie and Vanilla Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting. I am NOT a chocolate cake kinda gal but I’ve been converted after using her recipe.Hoping for book # 2!!!

On the positive side, lots of gorgeous photos, great decorating ideas and other tips.So far, I’ve made the Margherita Cupcakes and Orange Cream Cake. The individual flavors were lost in the super rich, sugar laden buttercream frosting in both recipes. It was just too much and I threw away more than half the finished product for both recipes. Perhaps if the butter and shortening were halved while keeping the flavoring the same, the flavors would not have been so overwhelmed (or maybe I just prefer whipped cream and meringue style frostings). I may try that before completely giving up on this cookbook as I really want to like it.

Wonderful book, have already used a few of the recipes. Nice pictures, good instructions.

All the recipes are very well explained and it includes a final section with useful tips and techniques. The variety of recipes is amazing. My favorite baking book so far!!!
