Brilliant expose of contemporary malaise of expressive individualism.
Trueman expertly unpacks the philosophical and sociological roots of our contemporary identity crisis. A recommended read for any seriously minded Christian would wants to understand how we got into the present gender confusion and replaced God ways with self centred authority.

How on earth did our society get into this state of moral decline? Here are the answers.
Such a helpful book. Explains in a clear, easy to read and understandable way how our Western society has sunk into the state of moral decline that it has. Also clearly explains why the Church has been unable to counter the tide. Well laid out with each chapter having an introduction and a conclusion as well as a few helpful questions at the end. Accompanying Study Guide available if you want to go deeper.

One of my best contemporary books I’ve recently read
The Western world has changed. The rate in which the sexual and gender identity revolution has accelerated in recent times is astonishing! We truly reside in a strange world. After the success of 'The Rise & Triumph of the Modern Self', Trueman was encouraged by Ryan T. Anderson to put together a shortened, more accessible version for those who may not have the academic background to endure four hundred pages on such an intense but important subject, and the result is that we have been blessed with another great book! Strange New World: How Thinkers and Activists Redefined Identity and Sparked the Sexual Revolution pulls back the veil, examining how and why we have arrived at a world where self-expression and expressive individualism have come to be viewed as the highest good. Trueman makes his case for how we have arrived in this “new world” by exploring philosophical conceptions from thinkers such as, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, G. W. F. Hegel, Fredrich Nietzsche & Karl Marx. Trueman demonstrates that today’s ideas are not entirely new but have their roots in past thinkers. While the mention of philosophy might deter some from reading this book, Trueman does a quality job at making what could be quite a task to read very lucid. This book is very helpful in detailing sexual issues that Christians face in the current world. It is very realistic and so depressing, which Trueman acknowledges. However, Trueman ends with hope. In the last chapter. He exhorts Christians not to despair. Trueman ends with this, "We need to prepare ourselves, be informed, know what we believe and why we believe it, worship God in a manner that forms us as true disciples and pilgrims, intellectually and intuitively, and keep before our eyes the unbreakable promises that the Lord has made and confirmed in Jesus Christ." ‘Strange New World’ is easily one of my favourite contemporary books I have read in recent years, and HIGHLY recommend it. Great job by Trueman and Crossway. There is also a Strange New World study book and DVD, which I’ll definitely purchase in the near future.
