More impressed than expected
About a year ago I noticed my main binoculars, the economical priced 10 X 50 Celestron “Nature” binoculars were a bit out of culmination; I was unable to reach a clean focus. I tried to align them, but was never successful. So, the search began for a replacement.I had some criteria: 1) economic price - $100 to $150, 2) They were to be 10 X 50’s, 3) No heavier then the before mentioned Celestrons, 4) Coated for night use, 5) provide good views for the cost. That’s a tall order. But, with so many Binoculars on the market today, I hoped it would not be impossible. Now, I’m a visual amateur astronomer. I own several telescopes and too many eyepieces. I am not dedicated to binocular astronomy. However, those in the astronomy hobby know there are some objects that are better observed with binoculars. In addition, there are some nights where I just want to go for a pleasant “walk” through the sky. Just skim along.... nothing slims along better than binoculars. So, I began my search. Little by little, the possible contenders dropped off my list. Soon I was down to five, one of them the Orion Scenix. At this point, it became difficult to find great differences. I decided to check produce reviews hoping to find a way to separate this group. Almost all products receive a bad review. I look for recurring issues through the various reviews. Four of my group had small, but obvious issues such as glare, or loose controls, etc. Only the Orion came through unscathed. They were not the lest expensive of the group at $100, but I put in my order.Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was the packing. This product was excellently protected. To me that shows me the company is concerned about their product “after” it has been purchased.I was immediately impressed with their construction. All the moving sections responded (it seemed to me) as a much more expensive product. They were much lighter than my Celestrons and had a much more ergonomic feel. They came with a nicely cushioned soft case and unattached eye cups. They had a rubberized coating that made grabbing any part of them feel as if one had a secure hold. Finally, the included neck strap was nicely padded. The first few nights out was (if you will excuse the pun) an eye opening experience. They produced sharp and nicely contrasted views of all the stars, clusters, and nebulae observed. The view I had of some objects surprised me and I have been in this hobby for 19 years.Orion specs page states the Scenix are multicoated. I felt that was a bit in the modest side as they revealed a few objects a bit brighter then my Celestrons which are classed as “fully” multicoated. The only issue was a little distortion on the very edge of the field of view. Not much and hardly noticeable. That bit of distortion is the only reason I didn’t give this product five stars. In the end, I can truly say these a great binoculars. They provide the feel and performance of a much higher priced product.I have purchased other products from the Orion company and I have seldom been disappointed. Most of the time I am satisfied if not impressed. These binocs knocked my socks off.For this price you can’t go wrong.

Powerful and not too heavy
I purchased this binoculars for both star-gazing and terrestrial use. It works well for both! I have been using it along with my telescope to learn about astronomy, but it is also my travelling binoculars.Good job Orion!

Pretty darn good for the price
These are just as described by other reviewers; they perform. Stars snap into focus, you can differentiate colors which is something I was not able to do with my Celestrons. Rather than a halo I see the round shape of the star. Pretty darn good for the price!

I recommend this product
Its a good peice of binoculars. The optics is sharp and the binos are light weight. Giving this binocular 4 rating because of it material. It feels a lil plasticy to me. But overall, these binos are very good for start amatuer astronomy. Thats what I bought it for.
