Q: How does this compare to Helinox chairs?

If you are comparing it to the Helinox Chair Zero for backpacking this is 12 oz heavier, so almost double. Compared to a Helinox Chair One - it's actually 4 oz lighter. So kind of in the middle. I have both the Chair Zero and this Nemo. If weight is the biggest concern go with the Helinox. I actually find the Chair Zero a bit more comfortable (subjective) but I feel like it's going to break everytime I use it if I move wrong. The Nemo is incredibly sturdy so you know where that extra weight goes. It's feet are also way better and don't sink as much in soft ground.

Q: The side straps don't get in the way of the arms for a smaller person?

The side straps are not in the way of a smaller person. This chair is not a high back chair. The chair is designed to be lightweight and compact. The back of the chair will come up to mid back on most people. Your arms will easily fit over the straps so they are not in the way.
