Wireless mic does the job
I bought this mic for sound reinforcement in the classroom after the students at the back of the room complained that my voice was trailing off during lectures. Now I simply clip the mic to my collar, plug the USB into my laptop, and my voice is projected over the room's AV system. It was effortless to set up and use on my Mac. I also record my lectures: I was using a separate battery-operated voice recorder, which meant I had to juggle SD cards after class to copy the files onto my laptop; now, I use Audio Hijack Pro to capture the audio stream coming off the xTag. Everything works very smoothly. My only reservation concerns audio quality. This device is based on the DECT standard that is the basis of most current cordless phones. As such, it uses a pretty low bitrate, and a fairly simple digital encoding scheme. The result is a voice signal that is fine for projecting in a (relatively noisy) classroom, but gives recordings with audible quantization noise. The voice bandwidth is 7 kHz (better than telephone, but worse than FM radio), and the encoding (I believe) is 4-bit ADPCM. I estimate the SNR to be about 40-45 dB, similar to a medium-quality voice memo recorder. That's one big difference between this and the $500+ wireless mics from professional mic manufacturers like Sennheiser and Shure. However, the quality is fine for reinforcing and recording speech, and the ease of setup and use, and tiny size and weight of both mic and base-station/USB interface, make this a very nice product.

Doesn't last
Great technology, super easy to use, but I've had 6 of these and all break after a year or two. Not a durable product and it's $75 to even get a tech to look at it, not really worth it when similar mics cost that much to buy. I wish they would invest in making this a more durable product.

Mic great, earpiece tricky
I bought this for the wireless mic with USB. That works excellent, quality and range are both top notch and very very easy to get working (real plug and play). It also comes with an earpiece that plugs into the bottom of the mic unit. This I struggle with, with lots of twisting and tweaking I can get it to work - but then have to be careful not to bump the connection otherwise I lose the connection. Seemingly the connections are not 100% and I suspect it is a faulty unit? If I wasn't in South Africa I would look to replace the unit, but time is critical as I need the wireless mic and it'll take weeks to return and replace.

very convenient. only lack is noise cancelling- I use in noisy environment.
Using this for voice recognition in an Emergency Department rapidcare setting up front in what is normally called triage is very challenging but I REALLY like not having a bluetooth in my ear when talking to patients much less a headset. Using a tabletop mike on a laptop cart is slightly awkward in my setting. This is the second one I purchased, the first broke down with the constant travel so I package this more carefully in the original box as I transport in my laptop backpack.

Poorly Designed Headset
Its a great device with an extremly poorly design microphone headset. The ear piece was designed to fit a 10-yeart old ear lobe and not an adult. If you get this device, try the ear piece first before you commit to keeping the kit.

Highly recommended, A+
Purchased this for work to record live seminars and presentations. It works fantastic and is the best deal going. Haven't had any issues with range or sound quality. It's not the absolute best microphone, but it's the lowest price solution to the problem. If you need to record live seminars or presentations, I highly recommend.

It Just Doesn't Work
I've previously used various headsets for medical-related speech recognition and dictation, but wanted to move to a microphone-only product. After reading reviews in which the xtag was lauded for dictation, as well as seeing a favorable report on the DNS website, I ordered this microphone. It was a huge disappointment. Sound quality was terrible. To get anything close to usable speech recognition, I had to hold it within an inch or two of my mouth...which quite defeats the purpose of a clip-on microphone. I tried a variety of methods to improve its performance, but without any success.Ultimately, I returned the microphone, trading it in for another under the assumption that I had received a defective unit. Unfortunately, the replacement was just as bad. This is either a poorly designed, generally defective product, or the manufacturing quality control is so bad that I received two defective units in a row.Either way, this product is completely unsuitable for voice recognition.
