Faber & Faber The Pebbles on the Beach

The reviewers who said it is not in fact a spotters guide are right. It is a specialist collectors discourse, well written but not as described. No illustrations despite the misleading cover.

I got this book on the strength of glowing reviews but although the text is excellent and leaves out no information that could help you understand how rocks are formed and laid down on the beach, there is not a single picture, no photos. For accurate identification it is only a general guide.

No photos, only quickly painted old illustrations on the cover and only on the extendable cover. Would be very hard to identify anything from these .May be interesting to read but I haven't bothered as it is far from I wanted for the grand children. Miss sold. Sorry I bought it.

The cover has nice pretty pictures, some more on the fly leaf - but that's it. Don't expect lots of illustrations scattered throughout the book, because there aren't any... it's a text book.

I was expecting a book with coloured pictures, descriptions and possible sources of the pebbles my granddaughter and I find on the beach. This book has pictures only on the inside of the cover and the rest is purely text. Not something you would take to the beach for identifying pebbles. Although you can 'look inside' on Amazon it only shows the covers and contents pages. Really disappointed.
