Jane Corry is a force to be reckoned with.
The story started with Sarah wondering why her son, Freddie didn't come home at the right time? She's a good mother who loves her child very much like all the mothers do. Freddie is a teenager who's behaviour make his father, Tom angry. Tom is a disciplined person who likes to talk in terms of quality and quantity. He and Sarah met at an art class years ago when they both were young. After their first meeting, they both wanted to sleep with each other. Although they both knew that they weren't each other's types but despite of that, they pursued their relationship with each other and got married in the presence of Tom's friends Olivia and Hugo and their two daughters, Clemmie and Molly.Their earlier years were filled with happiness but life doesn't remain the same, does it? And as Freddie was born, Tom discovered Sarah's terrible past that she went to prison. When he asked her to tell him the story, she told him, half of her story and he went from the hospital leaving his wife and their child on their own by giving the reason that he wanted some time to think about what he wanted in his life, whether he wanted them or not. Sarah went to Olivia's for two weeks until Tom begged her to come back.Their distance grew along with their child. Freddie was closer to his mom and seemed not to like his dad. Tom found a woman named Hilary who worked in his office to be confidential and hence he went closer to her. Sarah developed a friendship with Olivia and the two women together shared evrything, their husband's behaviour too.Freddie came to the house later and told his mom that he's killed someone and pleaded her to save him while his father wanted to give him away to the police. Sarah denied. They ran away from Tom's house. Tom and Sarah couldn't give their child to the police because they had secrets of their own. What happened next were a chain of events that left me speechless and forced me to think what could I do in such a situation.I loved the characters of Tom, Hilary, Olivia, Hugo, Flick, Mattie. Although Sarah and Steve were good but i felt more connected with Tom. Sarah gave him love in every situation and Tom was a strict father which in my opinion was correct. Although Jane Corry left it in discreet for the readers to understand it on their own that who was correct or who wasn't.Narration of the story was buttery smooth. I always loved Jane Corry's books and this is her best work. I literally cried many times. The emotions were that much perfect.I would highly recommend this masterpiece to everyone. Go and give it a read. It's worth it.

An addictive thriller centred around parenthood.
"I always used to think that a mother’s job was to protect her child. But here’s the real truth. At least, the way I see it. When it comes to a mother’s love – that boundless, almost undefinable, primal, umbilical-cord-wrenching bond that cannot be broken – there are no rules.”Sarah always thought of herself and her husband, Tom, as good people. But that was before their son Freddie came home saying he'd done something terrible, begging them not to tell the police.Soon Sarah and Tom must find out just how far they are willing to push themselves, and their marriage, to protect their only child. As the lies build up and Sarah is presented with the perfect opportunity to get Freddie off the hook, she is faced with a terrifying decision: Save her son... or save herself? In my opinion, it is the characters drawn by Corry that truly make this story come alive. Their quirks, flaws and their perception of life derived from the skeletons in their past give an edge to the events that unfold. The family dynamics are continuously evolving and the author keeps you engaged with jaw-dropping plot twists. The plot itself is actively paced and presents a moral dilemma at every step - What would you do in Sarah's place... as a woman hiding a secret... and as a mother? An addictive thriller, this throws you into the deep end and shows what it’s like to live on the dark edge of life. This ARC courtesy of NetGalley and Penguin Random House UK.For complete review, visit aquamarineflavours.wordpress.com.

A mother's love!
I have probably just one another book by Jane Corry that is to be read, so that definitely shows how much of a fan I am of her writing skills. She does it again! The domestic thriller that is The Lies We tell takes its time to grab you but once it does, there’s not a moment to be lost.Sarah and Tom are as unlike a pair as chalk and cheese. They come together at a time when they both are at their lowest, Sarah needing solidity and steady life, while Tom is lonely and wants to feel loved and share his life with someone. Both of them have past baggage and in Sarah’s case, more than one past secret effectively waiting to pop out of a Chinese puzzle box. It is the birth of Freddie that forces them to continue to work at their marriage even when it becomes clear that once the trust is lost, there’s no way it can be rekindled again. There’s an in-depth and detailed look into a mother’s psyche as Sarah struggles to give birth, losing babies one after another, and finally the exultant joy in holding Freddie in her hands and the smothering love that binds them both, how it becomes so much focussed that she loses sight of the drift in the relationship with her husband, how Tom effectively hands over the upbringing of the child into Sarah’s hands. It is only when the 15-year-old Freddie commits a crime that the rift becomes one of the gargantuan proportions and all the further decision just adds on to the chaos. The story unravels at a steady pace alternating between the present in Truro Crown Court and the past of Sarah’s and Tom’s life, it is definitely not an intense gasp for breath ride, but as the court proceedings are kept as vague as possible, the reader is compelled to continue reading with tension mounting up as the two timelines merge and the truth is finally out. What I absolutely loved is the thought-provoking theme of how far a mother can go to protect one’s child especially when faced with a situation that you have already endured.Emotional! Many thanks to Net Galley, Penguin Group, and the author for a chance to read and review this book. All opinions are expressed voluntarily.

A Twisted Tale of Truth and Lies (and what’s in between)
Jane Corry has done it again. She’s written a thriller that is also a family drama. The way she weaves the motives, history, and dysfunction of a family into a thriller is quite the skill.Ask yourself the question, what would you do to save your child? How far would you go? Would you lie for them? Would you sacrifice relationships, your own ambitions, and more?Sarah and Freddie could be any of us and that’s one reason why this book is so compelling. That, and the skilful plotting that will keep you wondering how it will turn out in the end.Well done, Jane. You’ve delivered another cracker!

Moreish, rather than 'addictive'.
This is my least favourite of Jane's books to date - primarily because it's a bit 'slow going' for me - no real drama to speak of - just family dramas and dilemmas and by the end of the book, absolutely everyone has a secret that they suddenly need to share. That said, whilst not exactly gripping or 'addictive' (as described), it did hold my attention and is a well-written book with all the ends neatly tied up.
