My main purpose of having these pads is to condition the backs of my guitar necks. If you play guitar you know that some gloss necks have some "stiction", where your fretting hand doesn't slide up and down the neck without feeling some level of stickiness or friction, hence the term "stiction". Just a couple of passes on the back of the neck with one of these pads reduces the stiction very well. Some guitars that have stain finished necks will develop a gloss over time, with or without stiction. The pad will make it satin again.Fear not. It won't ruin the finish on your neck if you are gentle as it doesn't take much for it to do its job. In one case I ran the pad over the black gloss finish of my Epiphone Dot and it took down the gloss, but left a haze. I was easily able to polish out the haze while keeping the satin feel. An unlike steel wool you won't have to worry about magnetic pickups coming off the pad and sucked onto the pickups.While I don't usually use the pads for cookware it's good tool to have for teflon coated pots and pans.
