The books are what is advertised, but I’m going to put a forewarning here: these aren’t full translations. I’m not sure if the translator, the company that published them in English, or both are responsible, but there’s a lot of things cut out of these versions. Pretty much all the things/moments that make the characters unique, like Wu Xie’s personal observations and thoughts, or knowledgeable rabbit trails, are missing, which makes reading these very, very dry. The name choices too are pretty odd and not consistent. If you really, really want to read these and this is the available option, they’ll do in a pinch, but they won’t be the version you fall in love with. I recommend looking for a more accurate version online that captures the voices of the characters and actually translates them instead.

Really great lecture!
I started to read these books after watching the tv series that I really enjoyed. The books are really easy to follow (translate from Chinese so I was a little worried - and I am none native English speaker). Really good adventure with scary parts (well as scary as a book can be). Also set in China do a complete new world here! Names are a little difficult to follow but after a while you get use to it. I really recommend them if you like adventure/tomb raiders!

Great read
Love this series. Read volumes 1 through 6 and am now lending them to a friend. Like an old time cinema serial. Love the tv series that were made from these volumes. There are few more volumes that are not ye available in English on Amazon but hope that changes soon.

I loved the contrast between the books and TV adaptions, it was really fun to spot the differences! :)

The translation is somewhat inaccurate
The translator changed some parts of the story, to the point where the fan translations available online (prior to this being picked up for official translation) are actually more accurate than the official english copy. This is somewhat disheartening. Also, persistently using literal translations of given names for characters, (Pang Zi to "Fats") and replacing all mentions of a nickname or given name for a main character with the literal translation of one nickname (Zhang Qilin - given name, Xiao Ge - nickname that is used to denote respect, both changed to PokerFace). The translator also directly changed the person who granted the nickname Men You Ping (Poker Face) to Uncle Three (another literal translation), when the original granter of the nickname is the main character Wu Xie. The nickname Uncle San gave Zhang Qilin is Xiao Ge, which means little big brother, and denotes that despite his apparently young age, ZQL has great skills, and deserves respect. That is just one point of inaccuracy in the translation and thus the rating has dropped by a star. I do enjoy Kennedy Xu's original work, so the rest of the stars are for the original novel, not the translation. If based purely on the translation for this set, it would be 3 stars at best.

Well worth the price!
All 6 books came in great condition, and while the translations are a little rough, all in all it’s a great series!! Especially for fans of the drama adaptations.
