Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe: A Novel

Excellent!
A different tack for the author who used to write as Heather Blake. Very much enjoyed this book and have re-read it more than once and it doesn't pall. Clever twists in the plot, as usual. She never disappoints!

A lovely read
This is such a sweet book. A heartwarming story with a touch of magic and a few thought provoking statements thrown in. My only issue was a little part of the story that wasn’t tied up enough in the end, but maybe that’s just how the author wanted to leave it.

A lovely book
A lovely magical book of sadness, loss and family, love and redemption. Very like Sarah Addison Allen's book and even The Sparrow Sisters books in it has that added ingredient of magic. 24 year old Anna Kate Callow has returned to the little American town of Wicklow in order to settle her late grandmother's affairs and undertake the terms of her will which left Anna Kate her grandmother's Blackbird Café. Anna Kate has never been to Wicklow before as her mother Eden refused to return to the small town because of the Linden family who accused her of the murder of their son AJ who was the love of Eden's life. In Wicklow Anna Kate has to deal with the animosity of Seelie Linden, the curiosity and friendship offered by regulars of the Blackbird Café, and meets Natalie Linden Walker and her adorable daughter Ollie. Also, there is the legend of the famous blackbird pies and the mysterious flock of blackbirds who only sing at night. Lovely book, I hope this author writes others.

Magical whimsy and heartache collide.
This narrative has a gentle and softly southern tone, which belies the difficult and sometimes painful family dynamics beneath. A superb tale which completely immersed me.

Delightful story!
I wish they would make this into a movie! This was such a good story of lies, secrets, love and forgiveness. And food! I was so hoping thee would be recipes included for pie and tea but there wasn’t.

Sweet and tender! A bit flaky too just like pie
Such a tender and sweet little tale of mystical birds and folklore. Of grief , secrets and forgiveness all woven together with the threads of family, friendship and good old nature.

unexpectedly delightful
I enjoyed this magical tale of birds, pies and healing. The author did a wonderful job of weaving the mystical tale of 4 and 20 blackbirds into a southern drama as sweet as the blackberry tea and blackbird pies
