Beautiful edition
Beautiful edition, though I would have liked to see a classic white stripes color for the vinyl pressing, maybe red and white stripes on one, but they’re still cool to look at, especially the crystal red vinyl. The album cover is one of the sturdier ones I have, with embossed letters on the back cover. You’ll want to use some anti-static inner liners for these, as the paper innner liners that come with these cause a lot of drag when pulling the record out. Not a big deal for me, I have a pack at home. Slipped the album into an acetate cover to protect the cover art and it’s now a happy part of my little vinyl family. If you like the White Stripes, don’t hesitate, this is a great album, with some of Jack White’s sense of humor on the back cover. * A,B, 3,D.

Ballroom Blitz
I missed the boat on the first couple of White Stripes CDs and was fully prepared to hate them when I bought ELEPHANT--talk about a boatload of hype being forced down down your throat by Rolling Stone and every other out-of-touch music rag--but after four straight days of listening to ELEPHANT at top volume, I am here to say that the White Stripes have got it going on. "Seven Nation Army" is getting the airplay, but the whole album rocks. Kind of like Sweet meets Smashing Pumpkins, with Guns & Roses and the Spiders from Mars playing backup. I mean, they ROCK. There is a lot mure THUMP! to the White Stripes than your typical 21st century band; they appreciate big guitars and are a thousand times more creative than anyone else going right now. As far as I'm concerned "Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine" is thE Rock song of 2003, an absolute ass-kicker with some of the best singing I've heard by a guy on a Rock record since Kurt Cobain fled the scene. Jack White also plays guitar like Mick Ronson, and you can't beat that. The shortcoming of the White Stripes, as with a million other bands, is that they can't be hard and soft on the same LP. The lighter stuff here--and there isn't much--sounds forced, contrived. If the Stones, Beatles, Zep, Who, and other classic Rockers can point to one thing that sets them above most of the other bands that have attempted the crown since then, it is that they could play both sides of the coin--the Stones had "Midnight Rambler" and "Angie," the Who had "Love Ain't For Keeping" on the same LP as "Won't Get Fooled Again." Jack White comes really close on "I Want to Be The Boy...", and Meg White attempts some kind of subtlety on "In the Cold, Cold Night," but it really just sounds like one of those blank-generation Goth things Concrete Blonde used to do. There comes a point when a singer needs to put across something deeper; when the White Stripes get to that point they will be a truly great band. I suppose the secret may be to keep Meg behind the drum kit while Jack stretches his vocal chops.

Mensch, ist diese CD cool ! Einfach Weltklasse ! Einfach genial ! Aber nun mal ernst : The white stripes sind ganz was besonderes. Da gibt es z.B. einige Songs mit Beatles Akkorden, wie "There's no home for you here", "I want to the boy" oder "The air near my fingers". Da gibt es die reine Akustik - Nummer wie "You've got her in your pocket", und die verschiedensten Rocker : "Hypnotize" mit richtigem 8/16 Rock'n'roll Rhytmus, "The hardest Button to button" oder "Ball and biscuit", der perfekte Bluesrocker. "Girl you have no medicine" : Einer der besten Rock'n'roll Songs aller Zeiten !! "I just don't know what to do with myself" : Anhören !!! Sensationell !
