Does it split very small pills?

Yes. I have been able to cut a very small pill in half and then cut the halves into fourths, which were just a tad over 1/16th inch square. (The pill was for my kitty.) However, if the pill is somewhat crumbly, it might shatter at such a small size.

First, cut round pills into halves. Then, load the halves cut side down, crosswise between the retainers. Really easy.

Yes, you can split pills that are very small. I would not try that on my own very small tablets because I could not control/know if they split exactly in half, especially for rectangular shaped medicines. Splitting something 1/8 of an inch results in two 1/16 inch halves. I feel that is too small for me to confidently know my pill is split exactly in half. If the dosage is not critical I would use this pill splitter for 1/8 inch pills.
