Glad I got one.
I was worried after reading some of the other reviews, but I'm glad that I bought it now. I let hot water sit in it for a few minutes then poured it out and poured my hot drink in it. It was still really hot five hours later. There was no problem with it leaking. The built in spoon will be nice to have when I use it to take soups and stews with me. It will also come in handy this summer to store cold beverages in it to take out with me. I'm so happy that I bought it. It's a great travel size for me.

Lid doesn't fit, connections are too loose. **PROBLEM FIXED**
I updated my review to 5 stars. (You can see the original 1 star review below). I contacted Thermos directly and they at first sent me another lid, but that didn't solve the problem so then they sent me an entire new thermos. Everything works great now and I'm enjoying my hot soup at work for lunch. The trick to keeping things hot all day is to first preheat the thermos. Pour boiling water in and let it sit for five minutes. Then pour out the water and put in your food. If you do this your food will stay very hot.Original review: I have other sizes of this exact thermos so I'm aware of how the pieces are supposed to fit together. When this size arrived I hand washed it and tossed the packaging (so no returning it). When I went to put it together, the black lid does not have a good connection with the metal grooves. The black plastic lid is supposed to screw down into the metal thermos. When placing the plastic lid on, the metal thermos is too large or the plastic piece is too small, so that it just fits inside with no need to screw it. This also means that I can just pull on the black lid and it pulls out, without having to unscrew it. This is not secure enough to hold food or liquid if it's in a lunch bag where it will be tossed around. Totally useless.

This keeps your food nice and hot for hours.
Bought his for my wife to keep her lunch hot while at work. This works very well. She heated up her food in the microwave and put it in the canister. After 4 hours, her food was still hot. Exactly what I expected from Thermos brand

Reliable food jar, finish could be stronger for dishwasher
This thermos food jar has been a lifesaver for traveling with a toddler. It keeps food hot for hours, making it perfect for long-distance flights. Even after several hours, meals stay warm and fresh. The size is just right for packing a portion of food, and it’s leak-proof, so no spills in our bag. However, after several washes in the dishwasher, the exterior started peeling, which is disappointing for an otherwise durable product. Still great for keeping food hot, but the finish could be more resilient.

Worth the money
I got my husband this for his lunch since he works on an oil field with no microwave . My husband who mainly eats sandwiches for lunch , I decided to change it up. I decided to put cooked chicken and rice in it. Like the description said I put boiling water in it first and then poured it out, placed chicken and rice in it and I added just a tad bit of hot water. 6 hours laterMy husband was pleasantly surprised, the food wasn’t super hot but warm and of course tasted good. I definitely recommend this to someone who is sick of eating sandwiches everyday. I did want to point out that I cooked the chicken and rice that morning and then put it right in the thermos. It’s worth the money.

Works great
This worked just as advertised. I put hot water in it to warm up before dumping it and putting in hot soup. 5 1/2 hours later and it's still piping hot. It didn't leak in my bag so I'm very happy with it.

As good as it could be except for one detail
This item as good as it could be except for one small detail. The small detail is that this product desperately need a pressure relief valve for the lid, which some newer versions of this thermos have. Why a pressure relief valve, and why is it needed? This container has excellent thermal properties, but it cannot keep everything hot forever although it is one of the best.Hot things expand and when they cool off they contract. If you put hot things in this container and let them cool off to room temperature, they will contract so much that it will cause a major loss of volume in the contents and the resulting drop in pressure that contraction creates will suck the sealed lid down tight enough the average person will encounter substantial difficulty trying to unscrew the lid because the vacuum that is created will cause the lid to resist moving up against the outside air pressure that is pushing the lid closed. This is not an issue that will be a big deal if you are only going to keep things hot for around 10 hours but if you allow the contents to cool down to room temperature like I have done in the past by packing boiling hot soup and then keeping over night for tomorrow, you will suddenly relearn that old science lab experiment from your grade school days.On this otherwise excellent container you will need to apply a lot of force to get the lid loose enough to let some air past the seals on the lid. The last time I needed to do this the vacuum was so strong the rubber seal around the lid needed to pull away from the lid far enough to let the pressure equalize before I could open the lid. The rubber seal is designed to stretch, so there was no problem putting the seal back where it came from as I remove it when I am cleaning the lid when it needs more cleaning. The newer versions of this container have the pressure relief valve, but they are more expensive and the pressure relief valve is just another part you will need to clean later. If you have no intention of packing hot soup or other hot contents that need to be kept in the container for more than 6 hours there should be no problems or other issues to worry about. This is a great product and I am happy with it as long as you don't forget and leave something hot sitting in it overnight.I purchased 3 of these and I would buy another if one is damaged beyond repair.
