As an avid collector of the SC coast, I can say to anyone looking for a good shell guide book, this is the one to buy.

I own about 10 Shell identification books. This one is the easiest to use and I can quickly find what I am looking for. It has good information on each shell. Because it is region specific - Georgia & the Carolinas, I don’t have to wade through shells not found here but only in other parts of the country & the world. The photos are done well, making it easier to find your shells. Some shells the photos show what the egg sacks look like or what their trail in the sand looks like. So if you see the trail only and wonder what made it, you can look it up. I also like that they identify shell fragments so if that is what you collected, you can find that too. Wonder about what caused the odd trails actually on your shells and the perfect little holes (like someone intentionally drilled them)? Find those interesting explanations too. Informative, interesting, well laid out and good photos. I only wish the binding would allow it to lay flat. You will love this book and it makes an excellent gift. I’ve gifted lots of them.Side note: the other Shell book I use as a companion to this one is a Smithsonian Handbooks series title called “Shells” by S. Peter Dance. Another great gift for any Shell Collector.

Not sure what to expect, this book checks all the boxes. Its concise, not a long, blathering explanation of the science of shells and shelling. Very good references and where to expect to find them. It also tells you things about shells and their inhabitants that I never knew, and I have picked up shells for decades. And finally, its a great identification guide. The binding is excellent, making it textbook like in terms of feel, even for a small/brief book. If I were reprinting, I would consider a more "writable" paper, a notes section, pockets in the covers for note cards, and lastly, make it spiral bound. This book is well beyond value in terms of cost...... its a bargain.

I seen this book at a beach house and wanted one because it gave a lot of info on the different shells I found on the beach! Very interesting!

I love this book! It has almost all shells you will be able to find on SC coast, for sure! It also has listing map of where to find the most shells, as well as one can expect! My extended family, also bought 2 more of this book, after mine!

This book was exactly what I expected. We have enjoyed using it and so have my kids.

After a week at the beach, my mid-western Grand kids got a lot of insight from the books.
