Is the matte farmhouse black a true black, or more of a matte dark bronze/ almost black?

There's something about this that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

Is it good for outside too?

Absolutely! When I was researching this product, I saw people using it for mailboxes, house letters, outdoor lights, etc. In fact, we painted our house numbers with it months ago and they look great. I think you'll love this product BUT . . . don't buy it with this nozzle!!!! The nozzle does not work very well. You would like this product more if you buy it in a can with the regular nozzle, then buy one of Rustoleum's clip-on nozzles to use it with. MUCH better operating and way less wasteful. Trust me on this one! I wasted nearly a whole can of paint with this stupid nozzle. It sputtered all over the place. Lots of reviewers warned me, but I didn't listen and sure enough they were right. The paint itself is great, though.

If I use this to paint a bicycle, do I need to sand the old paint off first?

You do not need to sand the old paint off. Just make sure the old paint is still on good. If you are able sand the surface with a fine grit sandpaper to assure the new paint sticks better. Also feather out areas after removing peeling paint so it adheres well and looks good when done. Hope this helps.

can this be used around a heated surface

I used it on a 1200lb wheelwrights anvil made into a patio table..it has a 12 inch hole in the middle that I put a small Weber grill...no problem so far
