This set is a thoroughly engaging collection of performances from three albums the Oscar Peterson Trio devoted to three well-known Broadway shows. My Fair Lady was recorded in 1958, in the interval between the departure of guitarist Herb Ellis and the arrival of drummer Ed Thigpen. Occupying the drum chair for this date is Gene Gammage, who fits in seamlessly with the peerless Ray Brown. Thigpen comes in for the remaining albums, Porgy and Bess (1959) and Fiorello! (1960) and locks into place one of the greatest of all the Peterson trios. Peterson himself who could sometimes be overwhelming plays with marked restraint all the way, while Brown and Thigpen provide stirring, swinging backing in what is an unfailingly stimulating combination.

The Mighty Oscar Peterson Does Broadway
First of all, Oscar Peterson was one of the greats. And I love his jazz covers of shows. Here we get three on two CDs. The My Fair Lady is lots of fun, and Fiorello has its moments, but it's Porgy and Bess that's the clear winner here, with the best jazz rendition of I Loves You, Porgy I've ever heard - sheer poetry. I believe all these are vinyl transfers - it mostly sounds very good, but occasionally you can hear the vinyl issues. But highly recommended.

I am prejudiced by all of the albums that I have by Oscar Peterson as being the best music be it with a trio or orchestra or solo and this is another of one of his great albums.

A great CD. Nice to see these combined on one. Love the My Fair Lady tracks... Oscar was a gem.

Love Oscar Peterson but for some reason this doesn't appeal to me as much as some of his other recordings. Service was good as usual, though.
