Profound work in safely retrieving past trauma
The ONLY problem, is that this is only available via Audible (or CD), but not a book. I wanted to have it in print because I keep stopping the audio to try to write down all the things that are so meaningful to me. Honestly, the best book on trauma I've ever read, and I've read a LOT.

I guess it would make sense if I were a Zen master already.
The descriptions of trauma and what if feels like to have your nervous system stuck in high alert are perfect. Exactly right. 5 starsOn the other hand, the guided practices are frustrating and baffling. She says things like : "As we connect, we connect with you, making space for more of you to arrive and be welcomed into the folds of your wholeness." Then she'll go on to describe these wonderful sounding states you're supposed to be feeling like calmness, love, connection to other people.Ok. Sounds great, but how the hell do I get there from here? If I knew how to induce pleasant feelings in myself, I wouldn't be seeking help. If I were already a well-adjusted, mentally and physically healthy person I guess I'd understand.

Brilliant therapeutic approach
If you are a therapist working with clients recovering from trauma, or if you have experienced your own trauma, this audio book/program is a light that uncovers the answers we all seek. Arielle Schwartz provides a comprehensive and integrative approach to treating trauma. I am a university professor and have been working as a therapist treating trauma for 20 years. I wish I would have known this information when I first began. I just can't say enough about how excellent the information in this book is - if you are looking for healing on your own journey, or if you are helping others, this book is required reading.
