Very comprehensive, excellent
Absolutely amazing book. So detailed, excellent pictures. I bought it for gold work stitching. If I could only buy one book, this would be it.

Nicely done!
Nicely done! This book covers far more than I wanted to know about every type of appliqué. It is probably one of the best reference books I have seen on appliqué.

Met RSN expectations.
I believe typical of the RSN books. Am enjoying though I have not tried any of the projects. Its more instructional than I thought but certainly worth the time and will enjoy.

Bought as a gift for my very talented friend. She loved the book and found the illustrations just beautiful. I’m so pleased to have bought this for her gift.

Five Stars
On first read through, a thorough set of instructions for applique, as olny the Royal School can provide.

Not enough information, not explained clearly enough.
This book has a disappointing lack of information on applique. Of the 128 pages, I counted that only 63 are about applique - the other 65 are about history, embroidery, the RSN and general sewing information like how to thread a needle or make a knot. Of those 63 pages which are about applique, 12 are photos of what the author calls "pure inspiration" but which I'm afraid I found old-fashioned and uninspiring (see 1st photo for an example). 17 pages are instructions and templates for the 2 projects, which again I'm afraid didn't inspire me (photos 2 and 3). That leaves only 34 pages of techniques.Of the information which is about applique techniques, most of it seems a bit basic and it hasn't answered any of the questions I have such as how to applique "difficult" fabrics such as faux fur or stretchy fabric (the author just says not to do this while you are a beginner), or how to applique on a surface other than calico stretched on a slate frame or embroidery hoop (I think everything in the book was done like this). In the introduction there is a photo of appliqued 3D cupcakes and I was interested to learn how to applique on this type of 3D structure, but there are no instructions or advice on this.Even the basic applique information I thought was poorly organised and not always clearly explained. I originally thought there was no index, then I realised that it only took up half a page next to the glossary.I chose this book because it was the only applique book I could find which didn't appear to be specifically for quilting (which I'm not interested in). If there were any non-quilty alternatives available I would return this book and buy that instead, but as it is I feel I'm stuck with this. If you know of a good book with more advanced techniques, please tell me in "comments".

Ok but a bit disappointing x
Yes it was ok but not as I expected. A lot of small bits of information but it doesn't go too much into each type of appliqué

Lovely clear pictures and good explanation, as you would expect from the RSN
Lovely clear pictures and good explanation, as you would expect from the RSN. Although a good instructional book it is also lovely as a 'coffee table' book to just browse through.

OK for basics
Good as an introduction to appliqué, but I had hoped to find details of haute couture techniques and this is not covered in this book.
