SXE SXE86007 Large Display AM/FM Clock Radio

This is an OK alarm clock, but has some poorly implemented features that keep it from being a great alarm clock. I use the radio for my alarm, if I preferred the buzzer, these might not bother me so much. My biggest problem with it is that you cannot set the maximum volume that the alarm ramps up to when it first goes off. That means that every morning, I have to find the buttons for turning down the volume of the radio first thing. Waking up to a sound getting louder is good, not being able to control the max volume is bad. (It goes up to 13, I have to set it back down to 7 for comfortable listening.) My other issue with it is that turning off the alarm (clock radio) is just pressing a button, but turning off the radio (not on alarm) requires holding that same button down for 3 seconds. If you forget, you've just changed to AM or AUX, and have to press the button two more times to get it back to FM and then hold it for 3 seconds to actually turn it off. My third issue is that whenever you do anything on the buttons, the brightness of the clock goes back to bright, and you have to re-dim it. Or at least that's what I think is causing the brightness to reset to bright every single day.But, it seems to be keeping decent time, the alarm goes off every day. Setting the clock and the alarms was not especially hard, so an ok clock radio for the money.

Product worked great for 1 week then started to shut down (maybe electronic issue), amazon didn't approve refund because it was a gift that rested 3 weeks under the christmas tree and obviously more than 1 month passed when it was requested. Go with a known brand, a better supplier or buy it in a store with more warranty. Couldn't be repaired so it went to the trash.

MARCH 2017: SUMMARY5 stars. I liked what I saw for the price from this NO-NAME BRAND company called SXE. So I ordered it.You will find many variations on clock radios from different brands on AMAZON. Choose wisely.If you are looking for a simple no radio, one alarm, with large red digits, I saw one from RCA on Amazon. If you want something with a radio, and dual alarms this one from SXE is very good.This is a very versatile, feature-rich clock radio. Many functions /features:CLOCK=====- Clock 24 hours in AM / PM time ( so it will display 8:00 PM not 20:00)- Clock setting hours and minutes. If you hold down either hour or minute button it will quickly increase. After 12 hours,it will start at 1. After 59 minutes, it will start back at 00 minutes. There is no reverse / backwards.- LARGE red display of time digits- Colon (:) between hour and minute blinks (each second) to let you know it is working- DIMMER - you can set the display to bright or dimRADIO and AUX=============- AM / FM radio. You can turn on a station at anytime and listen.- Radio tuning - both up (forward) and down (back) buttons. The frequency will display on the clock face as you move toyour desired frequency (e.g 97.1 in FM). And if you hold down the button it will move through the frequencies faster.- Radio PRESETS - similar to your car. 18 presets AM or FM.- AUX: Using an AUX cable, you can play music from your IPAD, IPHONE, etc- There is a SOURCE button so you can select AM or FM or AUX. Your selection will be displayed on the clock face in large letters. NICE !- VOLUME UP and DOWN and it even displays a volume number- SIGNAL RECEPTION: I found it is best to have the radio near a window and to plug it into the wall outlet, and NOT use an AC power extension cord. (Originally I had it on an inside wall, and all I got was static). There is no seperate little wire out the back of the device for an FM antennae,so it might use the AC wire itself as the FM antennae.ALARMS======- Two (2) Alarms - his and hers ( his/hi, hers/hers). Each alarm:.....can be active (on) or deactive.....can be set to its own alarm time using the SET HOUR and SET MINUTES buttons.....can be set to beep or play radio (the most recently played station AM/FM ).....has its own set of 2 red lights to indicate active & beeper or radio....."gentle wake-up": when alarm goes off it starts quitely and increases in volume so it more gently tries to get you out of bed, works for both the beeper and the radio.- Has a large SNOOZE buttion which is not close to the OFF button (other alarms on AMAZON have this issue - too easy to turn off an alarm instead of snoozing. This one from SXE does NOT have that problem. )MISCELLANEOUS=============- Can play music in SLEEP mode - plays for a set number of minutes then turns off. You set the number of minutes from 90 to 10 minutes.- Battery backup (2 AA batteries) in case there is a brown out it will retain the time, alarm, and radio presets- The device is light - not heavy. About half the weight of my previous 2-alarm clock radio from 20 years ago. If dropped, it might survive.THERE ARE A LOT OF FEATURES and a set of (7) buttons, so some may think it is not 100% intuitive to set things on and off. And it is true. There will be a learning curve to remember how to set and use all the above features. It is like your car - the more features it has, the more you have to read the owners manual to know how to use them correctly.BTW - If you want, you will find similar complaints about learning curve on AMAZON about other clock radios.The INSTRUCTIONS are well written, not a poor English translation from Chinese, but you may need to keep them handly for a week or sountil you learn how to set or turn various features on and off.SOUND QUALITY: Do not expect high fidelity or deep bass audio. TO me it is similar to an IPOD.There is ONE SPEAKER, similar to most other clock radios. I did check that it plays both the Left and Right sound (channels) (Stereo signal) from an AUX device. You will hear both sides mixed. Some other devices sometiems only play the right or left channels.This clock plays both.There is a ONE YEAR WARRANTY, and the address to return the item to is on the oppostie side of the instructions. It is not SXE in China, but the distributor / holding company called NYL Holdings in Fort Lauderdale, FL.ORDER ALSO:===========If you want to play your IPAD, IPHONE, etc. through the speaker, order an AUX cable. I recommend the one from ANKER available from AMAZON.Order AA batteries if you do not have unused (new) ones around your house already.I hope all this info helps you.NOTES TO MANUFACTURER:======================7 buttons with labeling is nice, but each is black and the same shape. This makes learning more cumbersome AND surely increases the number of returns due to complicated instrutions. Use colored buttons and maybe change the shape of some. For Alarm 1 /back and Alarm 2/ fwd, maybe these should be both GREEN and triangular - back points left, and fwd points right.For Alarm OFF, the color RED and a circle shape.

it came in a simple package. It didn't look new but used. The volume doesn't work. The design is nice but I felt kind of cheated by getting an used item. The radio is a nice feature.Now the plugged has broken and now I cannot used it.

I've had hand-held transistor radios with better sound quality. A speaker port I could plug something else into would be great. I can't imagine using the AUX port and actually playing / listening to something with this so make it a "audio out" instead of an AUX in. Other than that, it has big numbers easy to read and relatively simple programming. For that it works great in our tack room when feeding horses. Just wish the sound was better for the hour+ we listen to it twice a day.

Bought this clock radio for the clock feature only. It sat in one place, displaying time, untouched for 6 months. It then went dark (no display) and could not be restarted. Seller denied claim for failure saying that it had worked long enough. If you want to spend $30 for a clock radio that works for 6 months, this is the product for you!

We wanted to get a large display clock radio. This display is fine, and is visible across the room with no problem. Setting up the functions (radio memories, alarm etc.) are still tricky and certainly not intuitive. The instructions are marginally useful. I suspect with more use I will figure it out; we have not missed any morning appointments yet.
