Short and spicy
Perfect short read that's full of spice! If you want a book that's going to heat up quick and stay spicy, this is a book for you. Bdsm themes, but not as dark as I expected. Overall, a solid spicy book that I wish I could read for the first time all over again!

Dark, hot, but still had great plot
Synopsis: Jessica was high school’s most popular girl, and made life horrible for the losers. But this isn’t high school anymore… and now she’s at a Halloween party with the whole school here and she’s drawn to none other than her biggest nemesis. This is a prequel to the Losers duet.Review: This book was extremely well-written and thorough, especially considering it was a prequel. Sometimes prequels feel rushed or plotless but I really felt connected to Manson and Jessica in this book and understood their backstory and current motivations.Of course the spice was incredible - all spice written by Harley Laroux is freaking fantastic. The Dom/Sub dynamic was super hot, and the way that the author approaches pain/pleasure is addicting. I couldn’t get over how hot the humiliation piece was ?? Who am I?? I definitely recommend this book if you’re into dark romance. Definitely make sure you check the TWs.Jess’s overall enjoyment: 5/5⭐️Spice level: 5/5 🌶️Angst level: 2/5 ❤️🩹Plot: 3.5/5 🗺️Writing: 5/5 🖊️

That was..... something.
I honestly don't really know what to say here. I'm at a bit of a loss for words, folks. How to describe what I just read...For starters, this is a short story, so the things I would traditionally be analyzing don't really apply. There's generally not enough time to have meaningful world building or character development. Naturally, this story was no exception. However, I do not believe it's fair to judge short stories of any kind (i.e. novellas, shorts, serials, etc.) on those things.Character identity was great. Usually I evaluate character creation and depth alongside character development as one broad category, but obviously that's not the case here. Each character was their own individual for the most part, at least the main characters. The background characters not so much, like the party-goers as a whole might as well be one. Jess and Ashley were clearly defined, Jess more so than Ashley (but that'll be a "duh" moment once you read it), and Jess had a fleshed out personality. Manson was rather well-defined as well, clear personality and actions. His three friends were a bit less-so, although again, once you read, they don't play as major a role and that's likely why they feel less defined. The scenery was fairly decently written. The descriptions were done well, though I think could easily have been better to really set the scene. This indicates to me that the author likely would do well at world building which bodes well for other books. The storyline itself was very intriguing. From the set-up to the culmination, I was thoroughly invested in the story. The overarching k!nk is not my cup-of-tea, but it was so well written that I didn't want to stop reading! I definitely fell hard for the storyline, like an enemies-to-lovers in fast forward.Overall, a super s€×y short read that draws you in with decent plot and character creation.

OMG this prequel is too good!!!🤭😍😆
I’ve been waiting so long to read this series, but oh my God it was worth it. This prequel was nothing like I imagined, it was better. I can’t wait to read the first book. This prequel had me on the edge of my seat and had me giggling and kicking my feet at guys and I’d just met them(especially Manson and Vincent 🥵)😅🤭. Jess is my favorite girl in the world and I can’t wait to get more into her and the guys story. 100% recommend 😍😍

Okay… Okay. Soooo I am absolutely hooked! I could not and would not put this book down. I was absolutely enthralled every single sentence, paragraph, page! Harley Laroux has me in an absolute chokehold! This little novella was completely unexpected and unhinged. Mason!!! Holy crap! They have so much chemistry and I am all for it. My heart is racing, my hands are shaking, and I am absolutely going to need some alone time with my fiancé!

Porn, in written form.
Quick read, took me like 3 days but you could easily read this in one evening. Basically porn. i didnt love it, personally, ive never read "erotic horror" genre. this will probably be a first and a last for me. I read this in preparation for "The Losers" but i am not quite sure i want to even read that book. it was okay, overall.

I am obsessed with every Harley Laroux book I’ve read so far, and this is no exception!
The Dare is a short, spicy novella that sets the tone for the loser series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novella and immediately had to start the first book right after. I’m obsessed with the characters and want more! The writing was great, and the story was well-paced.Overall, it’s a great read for any dark romance reader! I can’t wait to delve deeper into the story and the characters Harley has created!

I've read this book... so many times!!
I feel like this is a book that you will either love or feel really uncomfortable with - read the disclaimers, for sure. I don't necessarily think you need to worry about triggers with this book, at least not in the way I generally think trigger warnings are necessary, but I think some of the content could make some readers a little bit uncomfortable? I dunno. That said, I am FIRMLY in the love category and being that I've read it multiple times at this point, I feel like I've really honed in on why I love it so much. And, it doesn't hurt that I've recommended it to so many people at this point that I could give you the why you need to read this spiel basically off the top of my head.So what is this book about? Jessica and Manson haven't seen each other since high school where they had a... complicated, contentious and pretty unique relationship that ended pretty abruptly after a series of events that led to him being expelled from school. The popular girl, Jessica chose Manson as the target of bullying, though that choice seems to be driven as much by a pull to him as by his "freak" status. Now, after having not seen each other in over a year, a Halloween party and a game of Drink or Dare beer pong turns the tables and... reveals some things. This first thing I absolutely love about this book is the ENTHUSIASTIC CONSENT. I feel like this book knocks fully out of the park both the necessity of consent in situations where without it, there could be serious issues and also the fact that it doesn't have to be awkward to ask for or express consent. I'm sometimes hesitant (let's be real, am often hesitant) with books with dominance and submission themes because of issues of consent being really unclear or sketchy or just weirdly done, but I wanna really underscore just how clearly and smoothly it's established in this book.Second, I love the pacing and the build of tension. The pacing of this story and the reactions of the characters to both each other and, in the case of Jessica her own feelings really builds and plays out beautifully. I feel like this could be taken for granted, but I think that having a well paced build of tension and reaction is what makes a story feel authentic and this book has that in spades. Finally, the characters. I'm pretty sure everyone who loves this book is going to completely swoon over Manson because he is damn dreamy in all of the best ways, but I'm actually really, really impressed with how Jessica is written also. She's actually not a really easy character to make likable or relatable, but Ms. Laroux somehow makes her a character that I'm rooting for even though in most contexts she'd absolutely be the character you'd be rooting for to crash and burn. I think it's because she feels human and real and while you know that her actions have been terrible in the past, the reasons for them absolutely make them make sense.Anyway, I can not WAIT for a full length novel featuring these two characters and I will absolutely happily devour anything Harley Laroux writes.
