Can this be used to move grinding and welding smoke?

If it is just smoke, then it won't be an issue for the fan. But you need to make sure there won't be any hard particles going into the fan, as they can damage the blade and the motor.

In a pets grooming salon dogs hair is flying all over the place when we blow dry the dogs. Can this unit be used to suck the dogs hair to a canister?

Hello, Unfortunately, this fan will not work well for your application. Pet hair will be getting stuck inside the unit and getting wrapped around the impeller and fan's rotor, which can potentially increase chances of overheating and malfunction. If you still decide to us it for this application you need to ensure that there is a filter placed before the fan which will catch all of the hair before it reaches fan's parts. Does this fan have a dc motor? and is it pwm controlled?

This fan has a EC motor, which is a subtype of DC motors. Key difference is that it doesn't require a DC adapter since the conversion of electricity current happens inside the fan instead of DC adapter. The fan is controlled using Potentiometer technology and it yields exactly the same results as PWM.
