Fun pulp fantasy in perfectly sized, roughly hewn chunks
As a long time fan of old-school sword & sorcery tales, this publication certainly scratches that itch for raw "Weird Tales" kinda narratives. I'm devouring each issue - working my way from the first. Stories are a little rough around the edges (at least in the early issues), but that's what makes them fun. It does not feel like polished, corporate fantasy - these stories are from the heart. Fast paced, often clever, very comfortable for fans of Robert E. Howard and the like. Truth be told, some stories are more than just "homages" to Conan, but that's okay. I also enjoy that some short stories are self-contained, while other characters appear in tales across issues. Author interviews at the end of each are also insightful. There's an obvious love for the genre here by the editor. Can't wait for more!

Pure pulp
Pure pulp with super muscular hero's and extra-well built women. But fun, like a comic book of 50 years ago.

Sword and Sorcery done right
Savage realms was an awesome short story collection I felt like I was taken back to my teens rediscovering my passion for this genre no stale stories here I wanted more of every character

savage. realms continue
While not quite as good as the works of Robert E. Howard these stories are still well worth reading and show originality. They are a welcome addition to the genre.

Very captivating
Very interesting short stories took me back to my childhood days discovering the Conan stories. I recommend to those who like sword and sorcery tales.

Ok start
This debut issue features four stories. The first is very Conan-esque. It wasn't bad, but followed the usual tropes. The second tale was the best of the four, featuring a more original character I long to read about again. The third tale was a little more fantasy oriented, with a Dwarf and a sorcerer. The last story went the post apocalypse route. It was ok, but the setting was interesting in that it was our world. This is an ok start, and hopefully future issues will produce more interesting stories for fans of sword & sorcery

NEW MAGAZINE - NEW STORIES - NEW ADVENTURES IN THE SAVAGE REALMS
There's always room for another venue for stories that tell the adventures of heroes and villains...love found and lost...and great treasures and mysteries to move the world.Welcome to SAVAGE REALMS MONTHLY. Presumably derived from Willard Black's 2018 book SAVAGE REALMS, a LitRPG Adventure that drops players into virtual reality world with all the fun and excitement that entails, the monthly title "appears" to be a collection of tales of Sword & Sorcery. I say presumably because, after all, these adventures COULD be set in various virtual worlds.Having said that, the stories come off as straight S&S with different flavors...different tropes...and a lot of the fun for the readers. This first entry contains 4 stories:GOD OF THE MOUNTAIN by Willard Black - A barbarian mercenary takes gold to retrieve a captured daughter. But nothing is as it appears. The first of the Redgar and Natali continuing series if stories.THE FESTIVAL OF THE BULL by Steve Dilks - An escaped "slave" saves a life...a life that threatens to destroy what freedom he has.THE TOMB OF ORTHUN-RAH by David Sims - A search for hidden treasure brings deadly creatures and an evil betrayal.SERPENT LORD OF BRYSON METALS by Kell Myers - A war in a future time compels a soldier to protect an ancient artifact and its keeper.A nice collection of stories and a fun launch for this new magazine.

"My axe ran crimson..."
Phenomenal short collection of sword & sorcery. God of the Mountain by Willard Black is straight forward S&S with everything you could expect in a classic barbarian adventure. It kinda reminded me of the Lee Marvin/The Professionals movie and that's a good thing. The Festival of the Bull by Steve Dilks is top notch amazing and I am going to have to read more by him. It has classic set-up and premise like a very good Conan pastiche but this barbarian Bohun is his own man with his own mission and honor bound duty to abide by. Great tale! The Tomb of Orthun-Rah by David Sims is excellent as well, lots of surprise twists and fun. This is a great new addition to the premise of a barbarian vs a sorcerer.Serpent Lord of Bryson Metals is the weakest tale for me, but that is my own bias as it didn't particularly seem like a S&S tale to me - it is fantasy, it is action packed with strange magics etc and terrible monsters, but maybe it was a little off the mark for me - not bad by any stretch, its good, but just seemed a little out of place beside the others. I heartily recommend this collection to everyone who likes S&S.

Do you huger for Sword & Sorcery? Look no further! This probably the best S & S magazine out there.
These are mostly stories in the vain of Robert E Howard, their different enough to feel novel, but not to the point where I was questioning whether a story I read was indeed qualifiable as S&S or not. Which is a big issue with a lot of anthologies that claim to be S&S, but actually turn out to have a couple of stories that are truly S&S. Highly recommended for your S&S adrenaline fix!

Good first issue of Sword & Sorcery Fiction
Overall, a really good first issue. Only the last story fell flat for me. I am really looking forward to the next installment.

good introduction to sword & sorcery
A monthly magazine that is a great way to get an introduction to the Sword and sorcery genre, or for existing readers to find a new author. The short stories are just long enough to give an idea of what to expect, without potentially getting boring. I know I was interested in learning more about the worlds two of the authors had crafted.

Short Stories Fast Action
The resurgence of Sword and Sorcery is partly thanks to the return of pulp magazine formats. Savage Realms is part throwback part new wave. Three or four shorts per issue of breakneck adventures to Dungeon crawls as barbarians Slaughter , heists in ancient tombs against wild beasts and wizards and necromancer commit foul sorcery. If you crave short right to the point storytelling this is for you.
