Nice companion to the boy's book of the same name
My daughter loved the boy's version of this book which was gifted to her big brother before she was born, so we looked for the girl's version just for her. Gave it to her for Christmas and she's so happy to have her own. Pictures and prayers are cute and age appropriate (she's 3). Some topics don't apply, so we just skip those when we read it to her (and she can't read yet.) Couldn't find a brand new copy, so we purchased a used one and it was in suitable condition and she'd never know (and probably wouldn't care anyway). It came with a few stray pencil marks, which I just erased as best as I could. I don't think she really cared that the original book was for boys, but she likes that this one is her favorite color, pink. And we read this one to big brother, too, when he wants to join her storytime.

I am so upset that this is being marketed as a Christian book.
While some of the prayers are cute there are so so so many of them that are absolutely terrible prayers. There is over half of the book that has prayers where little girls are praying that they are "bad" that their feelings are "wrong" and they need to be "forgiven". It is full of shame, blame teachings that even as a strict Orthodox Christian I found to be way outside what the Bible teaches. It also has a prayer about how bad wars are on page 121 which I'm sure makes all the little girls of soldiers feel horrible. On page 96 it teaches little girls to judge other people who they might hear say a curse word, on page 89 a little girl gets frustrated doing her homework and the prayer actually says "I'm sorry that I sometimes learn slowly. Thank You for being patient with me." Because her level of learning is bad? What the???? This is not good for little girls, boys, adults or anyone. On page 83 it states "Help me to just obey her (mom) without arguing." because she didn't want to brush her teeth. Arguments with children give adults chance to explain and teach. If children never argue or question they never learn. This book is for mindless robots - not children who want to grow and live in Christ. Page 77 the girl says she is afraid of thunderstorms and the mom says she shouldn't be afraid because god will take care of it and the child is supposed to pray "please help me to trust you more". Fear of thunder and lightening is God given, they tell us to seek shelter not run out into storms, that is a normal fear. Some fears are normal, some must be overcome to teach us growth. This books discerns no difference. Awful Awful Awful!!!

my granddaughter
I gave a copy of this book to my granddaughter about 3 years ago. She is now almost 8, and I recently asked her what her favorite book was. She said that this was her favorite book, but unfortunately it had gotten lost. So I ordered her a new copy and her mother told me that she was thrilled when it arrived. This book is wonderful because it helps and teaches young children to pray about things from their own experience. I expect that beginning to learn to pray in this way from a young age will have a life-long impact on her.
