Nicely presented cookbook
Australian Women's Weekly is well known for its range of cookery books - usually in magazine format. This is a hardback book and contains a nice range of baking recipes - not all of which are in any way new, but the selection should please most enthusiastic home bakers. All the recipes I've tried so far have worked - even if the finished product doesn't look quite like the photo in the book!

Be prepared to put on a bit of weight
My wife asked me to request this book for her and I'm glad she did, so far we've munched our way through four of these recipes. The winner so far is the 'Dark chocolate cherry and walnut soda bread' (page 158). It's very, very moreish! We both thought the range of recipes well thought out though as it's just called 'Baking' the options are quite wide. If you look at the book's cover at the top of this page, the photos include a flan, bread, biscuits and a (calorie stuffed) cake.DK has been publishing well-designed books for several decades and this one is well up to their usual standards but I was a bit disappointed that the recipe pages follow the standard recipe book format. As a publication designer, I would have the headings a bit bigger and maybe printed in a dark grey or even in colour to get away from all the black type on these pages.

Mouth-wateringly delicious
As expected with any DK book, this is quality. Hard board cover, nicely laminated, weighty and most importantly, filled with colour.Although it’s Australian, the measures for every recipe are easy to follow; cups are converted to a more definitive grams and the ingredients are easily sourced in the UK. Just browsing this book made my mouth water. In addition to some basic cakes and biscuits, there are some more exotic recipes, especially for bread. This is a book ideal for beginners as every recipe is clearly laid out, with easy to follow method and full colour picture of the finished dish. Equally, as a reader who’s been @ keen home cook for some decades, I find this inspirational. Some newideas and it’s a great addition to my cookery book shelves. I’m impressed and I thoroughly recommend it.
