What material is the cord made from? Is it plastic?

Yes, it's plastic, but very smooth and flexible (also swivels). To get the "curls" out, you can dunk it in hot water, and then stretch it straight and run it under cold water immediately after the hot water dunk. I do this with all my circular cords and it works really well.

How fine of yarn can the needles reasonably handle? Specifically, has anyone had any issues with the tips being too blunt?

I haven't had difficulty with the tips being too blunt, but neither have I used very fine yarn. I could see where that may be an issue.

Are replacements available for both the Size 8 bamboo needle and 36 " swiveling cord?
