Drawing on over 20 years of experience and real-life case studies, David Jenyns outlines a path to Complete Business Reliability. It’s time to say hello to a more organized, repeatable and scalable business. Start reading or listening now. “A must for any business owner and their leadership team." Gıno Wickman, Traction . Review: The power of systems thinking - When David Jenyns contacted me and asked if I would read and review his book, I was knee-deep in books to read already. Another author referred me to him, so I agreed to review his book, but I couldn’t promise when. With that understanding, I purchased his book and put it in the stack. I did get to reading SYSTEMology, and I am pleased that I did. To begin with, I am a system and process kind of guy. I believe in documenting what we are doing and working to improve it over time. I use checklists and process outlines in my work every day. One difficulty is that my experience with documenting systems is based on my career in large public corporations. The resources at my disposal were significant. I have struggled a bit trying to curb my enthusiasm for documenting systems to match the small to mid-sized private companies that comprise my customer base these past two decades. Enter SYSTEMology. Jenyns has successfully translated the big public company world to the private business world for us. And, of course, he has systematized the systemization. Enthusiastic and Generous If I were to criticize Jenyns’ writing, it would be to suggest that his enthusiasm borders on overselling his process and his book. A significant trend in business is to move away from selling and advertising to being found. An unintended consequence of that trend is the acceleration of “content marketing.” I could easily mistake this book for one big selling process through content marketing. Except for one saving grace—Jenyns is very generous with his process, knowledge, and material. He has made this as much of a DIY project as anyone could hope to have. The resources on the SYSTEMology website will be enormously helpful. I referred several clients to this book since they have expressed a desire to scale their businesses while also stepping away from day-to-day involvement. I will also suggest this book to the startup businesses I advise. If an owner starts a business with systems thinking as a value and goal, life will be much easier. Layout and Style The book is predominantly organized around the SYSTEMology seven-step process: Define, Assign, Extract, Organise, Integrate, Scale, and Optimise., I enjoyed reading SYSTEMology because Jenyns starts each chapter with a summary of what we’ll be learning. Also, at the start of the chapter is a myth statement such as “Myth: You will need to create hundreds of systems to systemize a business.” At the end of each chapter is a case study of how a client implemented that particular process step. There are also links to online systems resources and a summary of the steps in the process. I spent some time going through the website content and found it to be useful and accessible. It will prove valuable to those who implement the seven-step process. Jenyns writes in a straight forward clear style. It is clear to me that he understands small businesses and the constraints on them. Besides being an excellent process, Jenyns makes it practical and down to earth. The Promise The subtitle of this book is, “Create Time, Reduce Errors, and Scale Your Profits with Proven Business Systems.” It will be several months before I will have firsthand knowledge of clients implementing SYSTEMology. However, I believe that when properly implemented, the promise of the subtitle will be kept. Most exciting for the business owners I work with will be the time recovered to work on the business instead of working full-time in the business. Recommendation I recommend this book to any business leader who aspires to a more strategic role and desires to scale their company. I believe SYSTEMology should be required reading for any startup company. This book will be well worth the read, and your business will thrive when you install system thinking as a significant piece of your culture. Review: Take E-Myth to its next logical step - I first encountered Michael Gerber's E-Myth over 15 years ago and eagerly tried to apply its principles to our business. However, it wasn't until I read Systemology by David Jenyns that many concepts became truly clear and actionable. One of the most profound takeaways from Systemology was the distinction between a project management system and a process management system. While this seems like an obvious separation now, it was something we had overlooked, and Jenyns does an exceptional job of explaining why it's essential and how to make the shift. The book excels in teaching how to extract processes from the minds of your experts and documenting them efficiently. Jenyns provides a clear, step-by-step guide that anyone looking to systematize their business can follow. The advice on simplifying and systemizing without overcomplicating things is both practical and insightful. One area where I think the book could go even further is in addressing how to transfer those documented processes back into the minds of new hires through training based on these systems. This next step would complete the cycle and ensure that the documented processes not only exist but are actively ingrained in the team for the long term. I hope Jenyns will explore this in future work. Overall, Systemology is an invaluable resource for any business owner looking to streamline operations and achieve more consistent results. It has provided clarity and structure that we missed with other books, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to take their business to the next level.

Take E-Myth to its next logical step

Inconclusive review
Take the review with a grain of salt. I only glanced through this book, from that, it's watered down from the real authoritative books on the subject. I went and got the real books on the subject and it's hard to go back to this from those. but this book is more palatable as some of those authoritative books have formulas that I can't understand. I believe this book is a good starting point. but there are more far advanced books that will take you through their. & you will have an advanced understanding on the subject matter. If this book does it for you, then great. But if you still want more, then use that as your motivation and you will find the authoritative books that will have your mind blown.

Key To Small Firms' Growth
I picked up both the e-book and Audible version of SYSTEMology® when it launched. Why? I consult with business owners who seek to address challenges they have that are limiting their ability to grow, generate profits and create a capitalized asset they can transfer to their family, employees or sell to a new owner in the future. I am not a business broker, but I've seen a number of firms where the owner intended to sell their business someday and retire. That happens far less often than you'd think. And, even when it does, it sells for far less value than most owners expect. Dave Jenyns has articulated one of the clearest prescriptions for addressing why so many owners work longer than they like, harder than they want and for less than they deserve. The key issue Dave's book addresses rather well is why most owners can't walk away from their business and have it continue to be a viable and profitable venture without them. Most become slaves to the very vehicle, the business, they assumed would be their ticket to financial freedom and a comfortable retirement. I've followed Dave Jenyns for some time through his podcast and blog. I've found his experience, success and clarity about how to 'bullet-proof' your business so it can operate independently of the founder / owner to be nothing short of amazing. In this book, he lays out a clear path to follow to gain control of the primary and secondary processes that make a business operate profitably. Once that's done, he reveals how to ensure that the team members who must use them to operate efficiently and effectively will 'buy into' and use them. Finally, he deals with the 'head trash' of both the owners and staff about systems that can sabotage any attempt to adopt and maintain a systems based business. Once that's accomplished, the owner is no longer tied up "fire-fighting" and can focus on more strategic concerns. At that point, the owner may find him or herself . . . maybe for the first time ever, to be truly working ON the business rather than IN it. Good read. Well written. Highly recommend.

Straightforward and practical advice!
I enjoyed reading SYSTEMology by David Jenyns! The book was well organized with the right level of detail to support his 7 stages of SYSTEMology: Define, Assign, Extract, Organize, Integrate, Scale, and Optimize. He has a website that had some additional resources to download which I found very helpful. Some of the key themes that really resonated with me were that the owner of the business is generally the bottleneck to growth and progress, every business has critical client flow and it important to understand yours, and if you can’t master the simple you’ll never be able to master the complex.

Most valuable information
Wow! 48 five star reviews so far. As an author myself I can only wish for that. But it is impossible not to give this excellent book five stars, and I decided to before I even looked at other reviews. I've known Dave for years (he contributed to one of my first books) and have watched his growth with interest, not to mention envy. This latest book represents the culmination of his experience (so far), and is not only highly informative but also a great read. He starts with a gripping tale of how his foresight paid off in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that he was able to take, and goes on to explain how he did (and you can) set things up to create lasting value in your business, come what may. So many business creators find themselves in the position that he describes, it should be required reading for anyone concerned about their future and that of their business. You have to get it, and you won't regret it!

If you have no SOPs, this might be useful
I felt like this book overpromised and underdelivered. I kept waiting for the big reveal, waiting for the big a-ha of what I needed to do to scale my business and allow it "to run itself." Turns out, this book tells me to create something I already have and is as old as business itself: standard operating procedures (SOP). The case studies were a joke, offering nothing of value. All of them basically said "my business was chaotic until I read SYSTEMology and wrote down my processes and procedures." Halfway through the book, I figured the author must be using the book as a marketing tool to sell something. I get to the chapter on project management and systems management software and keep waiting for the pitch, which never comes. Instead he invites the reader to find out what his latest software recommendations are by visiting his website...and that's where the pitch is. You need to sign up for his email list in order to learn that-- surprise!--he recommends subscription systems management software that he developed and sells. I feel duped: I bought the book hoping to learn something new for my business, but to me, it seems the author simply used a new name for SOPs and wrote the book so he could market his systemHUB software. I got a nugget or two from the book, but mostly it was a disappointment.

A system for creating systems that save you loads of time and money
SYSTEMology is a step-by-step guide to implement systems in your business. As the author says, it's a "system for creating systems." in fact, what I love the most about this book is that it is structured in a systematic way. We are taken through the 7 key steps to implement systems in our business so that it runs smoothly and efficiently. I especially loved that each chapter is preceded by a quick overview, so we know what to expect. In addition, each chapter ends with a handy list of action steps, so we can implement. The case studies included throughout the book make it much easier to visualize how the process works. This book is the business solution to grow by working on our business instead of working in our business. 5 stars!

A must-read for all small business owners!
I am biassed because I had the honour of being one of the proofreaders for this book, but that was because I knew David, and knew that he had this book in him. It is a testament to Dave's work ethic that even the early drafts were ALMOST PERFECT! But 'almost perfect' isn't a thing with Dave, so he kept working on it, and now the result is available to all. This isn't an airy-fairy book about theories, this book is based on David's results with his own businesses, and those of his clients, so these methods are battle-proven to work. What David has done is to break down the idea of systemising your business into simple terms, and simple steps, that will work for ANY business, and that any busy business owner can follow. And the end result will be a business that flows better, works better, and most importantly, runs without you, possibly even better than when you are micro-managing it! And yes, I am implementing his methods in my own business! If you only buy one business book this year, buy this one, you will thank me afterwards! Highly recommended!
