I am not qualified to rate this book
I wanted to learn more about cellular biology because of the corona virus. Unfortunately on page 20 the author stated that Darwin published his famous work in 1958, obvious error,1858-59. Shortly therafter he states that the presence of more dark peppered moths during aperiod of heavy soot, and later more light peppered moths in low soot conditions is proof of evolution of a new species. Completely erroneous. They are both peppered moths, not new species. The theory of evolution suggests new species takes eons of time. If they dont understand the basics and misrepresent the simple principles why would I go further, that is why I read the last chapter and disqualified my review. I may go back and read about virus reproductive mechanisms and maybe learn more about the vaccine mechanisms. I gave it a four rating so as not to insult the obvious knowledge and education the author possesses. More editing needed.

BIOLOGY BOOK
Good but text is not recommended for people who like colorful diagrams or words 😭

A bit of a muddle
This book spends too long on simple things, and too little time explaining clearly the difficult, IMHO. And in some places, makes errors that could have been picked up by better editing. For example, on page 52, it says, "All neutral atoms have the same number of protons and neutrons." "Neutrons" should be replaced by "electrons." For someone newly coming to this material, this could be seriously confusing. Or on page 62, one finds "The dotted line between the bases in the middle are where these hydrogen bonds are located." But there are no dotted lines, and, worse, the concept of "bases" hasn't been introduced yet. The subsequent discussion of protein folding, and the forces which determine protein shape, is sketchy and confusing. In the next paragraph, we get, "the oxygen atoms and the hydrogen atoms on the amide parts of the protein..." But there has been no definition, or explanation, or even mention, of an "amide," prior to this sentence.

Enjoyable book for someone interested in biology
Brought as a gift for great grandson, who is interested in biology. I skimmed through the book, it was easy for me to read. Just not sure about a 12 yo.

Good review
A perfect review for me, a person who used to tutor biology but is now 73.

Not many illustrations, in black and white, and lots of text. The subject is hard of course, but I found "Molecular biology for dummies' easier, or the video courses on Lecturio a lot better.

This resource has the potential to be an excellent entry level text; unfortunately there are heaps grammatical errors, sentence structure problems and factual inaccuracies that render this resource borderline useless. The formatting and structure of this resource could also use some improvement. Overall the resource is okay, but very far from perfect. Unfortunately a suboptimal resource text.

Nice cover (a tad floppy), easy to read, nice pics etc., very informative without being too serious or boring. If you have studied biology this book re-awakens the ‘little grey (or gray) cell . A sensible purchase.

Actually I found it easier to read Alberts et al Molecular biochemistry (1800 pages) than this. Did not realize that it is black and white and the pictures are sometimes low quality. Would do in a pinch as review material but I think it is too much to expect that complicated processes are compressed and still retain clarity.
