Superb MV-steel Tojiro DP equivalent made in Japan by parent company Fuji Cutlery Co. High quality.
The item I received was manufactured by Fuji Cutlery Co. in Niigata, Japan, per translating the Japanese on the packaging I received the knife in. Fuji Cutlery Co. is the parent company of Tojiro Cutlery. In fact, mine is identical in every way to a Tojiro DP except that it is made with a molybdenum-vanadium stainless steel in a mono-stell construction, rather than the core of VG-10 steel in the more expensive Tojiro DP series. It's great. I bought a Misono molybdenum knife in the same size to compare. This is sharper by a really noticeable amount, the blade is thinner, and surprisingly, the fit and finish on this Fuji knife was very slightly better (though both were very good). The handle is also appropriately sized for average western/Caucasian hands, whereas the handle on the Misono was a bit too small for me.The only potential negative here is if you have small hands the handle may be a bit bigger than would be ideal, and the thinner blade means it has just a teeny-tiny bit of flex. If you try to cut through very stiff ingredients with just the tip of the knife, you may notice a little bit of flex or steering. The middle and heel of the knife slice through even stiff ingredients with no flex. But if you want a really stout knife throughout, heel to tip, this may not be for you. But this is not a quality concern, it's a stylistic concern. It's a MV-steel Tojiro DP. It's well made in Japan by Fuji Cutlery Co. It's super-duper sharp and nice and thinly ground. You can buy stouter knives if that's important to you. Handle is appropriately sized for slightly larger more "Western" average hand sizes. It's excellent. Definitely worth $70-$80 to compete with Fujiwara and Misono competitors, but it's cheaper.

Not a real Japanese made knife.
Definitely not a real Japanese made knife. It is a cheap Chinese knockoff that is made with really cheap metal. It isn't balanced very well and also doesn't hold an edge. Get the real knife.
