Technical read, but critical for sharing the truth with other believers, and defending the Word.
Someone once wrote "A lie will make it halfway around the world before the truth gets its shoes on". This astute observation has been proven over and over by the various individuals and groups who seem to devote their lives to obfuscating, upending, or even obliterating the historic, orthodox readings of the Holy Scriptures. Ridiculous claims are made, and circulated, and by the time they are refuted, even more nonsense is spreading like a wildfire. It's no coincidence that as western world has been descending into madness by abandoning all reason and logic regarding the topics of men, women, and children, that church leaderships around the world have been forced (often kicking and screaming) into at least studying the topic, and even worse for them, speaking on it publicly in the church. To that end, if your church leaders/teachers are not including this book in their study on the topic, something is amiss.A common trap is that they think they know the historic Christian position, when in fact they are not, and are not well versed in modern scholarship on the topic. They then get duped by slick egalitarians speaking half truths, telling historic fiction, pet theories, and outright lies. I urge every elder, deacon, minister, and Christian who has any responsibility to know or interest in this topic, to buy and read this book. The scholarship is rock solid.

Scholarly look at 1 Timothy 2:9-15
This collection of essays takes a deep, scholarly dive into 1 Timothy 2:9-15. The authors all agree that this text, regardless of current cultural sentiment, teaches that in the church women are not allowed to teach or have authority over men. This straightforward interpretation gets significant pushback today, but the authors defend their position effectively and graciously. Special attention is given to the word for “have authority” and the syntax of the sentence. These deep dives into grammar, while needed, were a little too much for me to read every word of each essay. I found the essay on the history and culture of Ephesus and Schreiner’s interpretation of the passage to be the most interesting and useful. If you are studying 1 Timothy and want to take a scholarly look at 2:9-15, this is the book to get. If you are not interested in debates over a single word or the syntax of a sentence, this is probably not the best option.

Important Contribution
Other reviewers have pointed to the technical nature of the book. If you haven't had Greek, this is going to be tough. The authors do significant lexical work in a scholarly fashion. In other words, they follow the acceptable practice of exegesis. A 2-star reviewer found their methodology weak, but I'm not seeing their point.I would start by reading the first few pages of each chapter and skip to the conclusion of the chapter. This will help you understand the main point of the author.A good book to keep on your shelf in the discussion.

Great update on a controversial subject
Great update on a controversial subject. Leaves some questions, so possibly not the last word--disappointed there is not real debate despite the billing as have discussion at the end. All the discussers have the same viewpoint.

Definitive study
The scholarship in this volume is outstanding. Fair. Rigorous. Gracious. Decisive. I highly recommend it. Anyone who intends to deal honestly with the text in question cannot do so without engaging the arguments presented in this book.

Top contribution to the topic
One of the most in-depth analysis on the doctrine of teaching, preaching, in the church. Uses Scripture as the ultimate authority, the contributors look at the historical setting, the original koine Greek, and different views on the matter.

Good stuff!
This book is a very thorough study on the qualifications for leadership in the church. Challenging and highly informative. I would definitely recommend for those who are looking for a biblical view on the subject of women in leadership.

An Excellent and Comprehensive Study of Women's Role in the Church
This third edition is well done. It is complete and thorough in exegesis. The interpretive conclusions are honest and true to the inspired text of the Christian scriptures. Although one can get bogged down in places where it is highly technical, it is honest and comprehensive in understanding male and female roles within the Church. I highly recommend this book.Fred (Edmonton, Canada)
