Sturdy construction well made - including the zippers
Sturdy construction well made - including the zippers. Waterproof? Indeed! We went through several heavy rain storms in British Columbia with no concerns. I installed the bag without a roof rack, so the tie down belts had to be put through the windows and secured inside the car. It took some adjustment to place the belts so as to not touch the passenger and drivers heads - but worked fine. As others have mentioned, with this kind of no roof rack installation, rain water did drip into the car through one of the belts (only one side, for some reason) - but adjusting the placement of the belt and slightly loosening the tension seemed to eliminate the seepage. It was difficult finding the right size items to fill the bag fully, especially in the corners, in order for it to look like the advertisement pictures! - but not really a criticism, just an FYI. At speeds above 60mph, the belts do vibrate and "buzz" occasionally - but I never feared that the bag was in any danger of slipping. While some adjustments needed to be made to make everything work properly - I was very happy overall with the bag. It does what it is supposed to do and made it possible for us to go on an extended trip that would not have been possible with out the extra space for packing that the bag provided.

it's recommended you buy the 11 cubic feet for smaller vehicles
I honestly can't rate this highly enough! I had to move cross country from Santa Barbara to Chicago, over 2,000 miles, but I have a compact Prius C car. Note: it's recommended you buy the 11 cubic feet for smaller vehicles, which is what I got and it fit a lot of stuff. I saw that there were great verified reviews here but I was still terrified it would fly off. I personally bought the two extra straps that were suggested and the duffle bags and they were easy to prefill then have someone load onto the top of the car. I didn't have any scratching with the rubber mat down, my zippers did not freeze (even though I went through rain and snow) in late December. I had stuffed one of my coats in with the duffle bags and at the end of my trip everything was dry and there were no rips in the bag whatsoever. The zipper stayed secure the whole trip without a lock and I just left it strapped to the car when I stayed at hotels. A first I tried driving quite slowly with trepidation but honestly in the areas of Utah and Colorado where there are 80 mph speed limits, I would find myself going that and it stayed secure. I tried to average around 72 mph. To be honest I basically forgot it was there. Personally, I didn't hear any rattling and the wind sound wasn't significant at all. Perhaps just what a typical windy day might sound like with the windows up. Overall, a quality product, it was a great solution to taking a lot of stuff with me in my compact car without installing a rack. Will definitely be using this again.

Well built bag
Got this bag for an upcoming cross country trip. Looks to be well made. I got the small bag for a car with no rack since the racks on my roof are solid. I "pre-packed" this bag in the basement to see how much I can get into it and I can pack two big bins side by side and my dive bag in front. The only complaint so far is that you cannot really secure this bag to the roof. The straps are just regular nylon webbing which can be easily cut. I threaded the holes on the roof rack and screwed eye bolts into them and got coated wire cable which I will run through all the bolts and across the bag and secure it with a master lock. This should eliminate the ability of someone actually pulling out the bins should they cut through the bag (or at least slow them down). The only other option would be to buy wire enforced webbing at around $75.00 to replace the original straps.

Great Roof Bag
I am very happy with this roof bag. We used the duffle bags that are made for this roof bag to pack, and placed them all inside the roof bag. Each duffle was packed quite full, and there was still room in the roof bag to pack more items if we needed to. Upon starting the drive there was a loud humming/buzzing sound from the wind against the bag, but we pulled and secured the straps tighter and that seemed to do the trick. Whenever we would hear the sound we would just pull and tighten the straps from the inside of the car. We also learned that if there is any extra room that's not filled in inside the roof bag to tuck the empty corners or spaces tightly under the straps, and that eliminated the loud buzzing noise as well. This bag made it from MD to TX and back, and survived all of our stops with removing and reattaching it both ways. The nonslip mat placed under it was a good idea too to keep it from slipping on the top of our Ford Fusion. I have it tucked away and stored for our next road trip. Since it held up well I am sure it will be used again. I am very happy I made this purchase.

Missouri to California in December
I moved from Missouri to California the week of Christmas, and I had decided only to take what would fit in my car. As a female, the clothes and shoes took up a large portion of space. After scouring tons of reviews on different sites, it was easy to choose the RoofBag. It served it's purpose through rain, sleet, snow and winds...and everything was dry and in original condition. It was noisy when there were winds and it did cut down on MPGs, but that's to be expected. I would definitely suggest this product to anyone who is looking for additional space for a road trip/moving.Some words of wisdom to make the ride a whole lot smoother for those making a RoofBag purchase:1. Fill it up! I was nervous about overfilling, as I didn't want to dent my roof. But, when you get going, everything moves and settles, and I had realized I had a ton of extra room (I could've brought the hundreds of hangers I threw away!!).2. If you are able, take it for a test ride to give everything a chance to settle.3. Twist the straps to cut down on noise.
