The best introduction to Geology that you will ever read.
This book is fantastic! It is simply the best introduction to geology that I have ever read. It covers a vast range of topics and explains them all in clear, easy to understand terms. It is full of really helpful diagrams, photos and maps. It is disrupting my life at the moment since I am struggling to out it down, it is so readable. Never mind if you never walk anywhere… if you are remotely interested in how the world works then you should buy this book. I don’t think I have ever reviewed a book on Amazon before but I just want to tell the praises of this title from the mountain tops… especially front those originating in the Caledonian progeny 😂

Great introduction to Geology
I've had an amateur interest in Geology for some years but this is the first book which has given me at least, a clear understanding of the processes which give rise to sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, together with the processes which cause land to rise above or sink below the sea.The author's diagrams are relevant, clear and informative, something which is essential to describe complex three-dimesional processes over long periods of time. They are some of the best I've seen in a book intended for interested amateurs.I think the only criticisms I'd have is firstly, some of the pictures descibing geological features are small. And secondly, although the book is intended for "walkers" with an interest in geology, apart from mentioning some long distance paths and walking areas, there is no specific information about what you might see in a given walk and the location gelogical features described in the text. Recommended walks with a geological theme together with grid references for these features would be very useful. Perhaps for a future edition?Overall, a very good book which I'm glad I bought.

Superb!
I love this book. It’s a highly impressive summary of geology and the geological history of Britain, with very clear, bright diagrams and good photos. Engagingly written and accurate, with lovely touches, such as ‘by the way’ comments, keeping up the approachability. The book doesn’t spare on the detail necessary in any such summary, but the content is presented in such a sensible and attractive way that it should be accessible to most novices. (In any case, finding the meaning of technical terms is easy these days with the internet.)This must have been a labour of love for the author, Steve Peacock. I agree with the quote from Brian Cox given on the first page, “The world is beautiful to look at - but it’s even more beautiful to understand’. I will be strongly recommending ‘Geology for Walkers’ in my geology booklists for the general public and will certainly enjoy using it myself.

Superb intro into UK geology
If you are looking for an introduction to geology that contains lots of well-labelled diagrams I can heartily recommend this book. Its just the right length to explain everything without going into the sort of detail which could bog you down. Its written in a modern but informative style with bits of humour mixed in, so it's a good read that takes you from the oldest to youngest rock formations in a way that maintains your interest all the way. Thoroughly recommended 5 stars

The best introductory geology text book!
Dear Steve Peacock,Congratulations, your book is tremendous! It is nothing like I expectedwhen I ordered it 'blind' from Amazon. The layout is superb with easy tofollow explanations of geological concepts and your own illustrationsare second to none; no wonder you had to lock yourself away for hours tocomplete the book. So whilst you state in your introduction that it isnot a textbook, it is the best geological 'textbook' that I have met ina long, long time. Alas, the title 'for Walkers' may well mean that thebook meets a smaller audience than it deserves. Thanks for a great read and best wishes for its success.Steve H.

Logical and well designed information on simple geology
I enjoyed reading this up-to date and very readable text. The layout makes good use of illustrations and colour highlighting and is reminiscent of a n organised student's revision notes. Thus it is easy to find information you wish to review, after completing reading the book.I did a geology night school class back in the late 1960s and have since retained an interest in the subject. This text was a good review of advances in the subject and has given me new insights and renewed enthusiasm for the subject, which I believe will add increased knowledge to my walks in the Scottish Highlands.Highly recommended.

Excellent summary of the fundamentals of geology
For anyone with an interest in learning about geology and how it has sculpted the UK this is the book for you. Clearly written, well explained and with excellent diagrams the book covers many key subjects in geoscience. It will leave the reader with enough knowledge to better understand the fascinating journey the UK has made over geological time. As a u3a geology group leader I have recommended this book to my students.

Don’t waste your money, the worst quality book of ANY genre I’ve purchased
This is the absolute worst quality book I’ve ever purchased. You can’t even see the images!! It’s like a 5 year old learned how to copy/paste and made a book. Complete crap and even the written content is not even close to as described. Wow. Terrible, complete scam.
