Would the 6.5x20x50 work good for 22lr base class competition or should I go with something else

Should work great. Depending on the distance that you might be shooting, you might want to use with a 20 moa base.

Can it tolerate the recoil of .338 ultra mag

I have shot about 250 shots with mine mounted on my 375 Ruger without any problems.....holds its zero perfect

Yes instructions in box. Standard calibers like 30-06 will sight in at 100 yards with holdover points to 500 yards. Magnum calibers like 7mm and 300 Win Mag sight in at 200 yards ant the same points are good to 600 yards
