Yes we knew it wasn't gel, the pictures clearly show this. And we knew it was thin, more of a blanket than a pad. With that being said, the silk(-like) fabric is cool to the touch just like advertised. My double coated puppy (lab) hates regular crate mats because he gets too hot and this was a perfect, inexpensive, fix. He slept longer, and was quieter than other nights. Because its more like a blanket than a stiff pad, and had the silky material, it did get folded or bunched up in places if your dog moves alot. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars for us is the thinness, and is a bit slippery and slides around, but we knew given the silky fabric that would happen. Putting it on top of an exciting fabric crate pad helps the sliding a little bit.We hand washed and hung to dry. In 90 degree temp it dried in about 1.5/2 hrs.

I had purchased a different brand for my Pom because she gets extremely hot during the summer. She loved it so much I decided to get her one for her spot on my bed. This was a great price and in a bigger size, I wanted a bigger one to give her a bigger area, so I decided to try it. She loves it just as much as the other one. My kitten even will try to take it over when we go to bed.

I opened this item and as soon as I touvhed it I could feel the cool light feeling. I thought it would be a little uncomfortable because it feels like a soft plastic. My dog did climb on it right away. He lied down right away. My son noticed an hour later he was not panting like he had been from the heat. He is sleeping so well and my son felt it while he was lying there and it was still cool. The only reason I didn't give this item 5 stars is because I wanted a different color. I am not happy with the camo look especially in the home.

This is a great product! I used it on my hospice dog that had to be kept cool. It’s VERY cooling, comfortable and soft. Bigger than expected. Love it
