This book will help your children love and care for the world around them
This is a wonderful book to introduce your budding environmentalists and conservationists to the world around them. They get to explore 9 habitats with an overview of where it is, what's happening there, and how they can help to keep it safe. The areas addressed are the mountains, forests, deserts, polar lands, ocean freshwater, cities, rainforests, and grasslands.I've picked one area for a deeper dive into how each segment is presented. My personal choice is the ocean. This segment has two biographies: Jules Verne of old and Christina Mittermeier, a photographer working today. The natural wonder of the coral reefs is described in detail with a hopeful hint that although some are dying, others are making a comeback. The book offers suggested field trips and suggests who to bring and what to do. Included is a story of the recent environmental success of a group that does ocean cleanup. There's A DIY segment called "The Art of the Ocean". and finally the youngsters will get suggestions on knowing how to choose sustainable fish to eat. How to plan a waterway and suggestions on how to reduce the single-use plastics we're so accustomed to.Overall this is one of the better books of its kind. It will make a wonderful gift for birthdays or holidays and encourage family activities for the betterment of our earth.

Fun, educational, interactive
This is the kind of book that is just full of surprises and information. It's actually fun to read and includes activities that kids can do to complement what they've learned. Each chapter covers a different type of habitat: mountains, forests, deserts, polar lands, ocean, freshwater, cities, rainforests, and grasslands. Each chapter has 2 biographies of a person who was influential in that habitat. Then a specific location is highlighted. The chapter then discusses taking a field trip to that habitat, discusses the environmental impact on that habitat, has a DIY section that is an activity for kids to do. The chapters end with a section on stewardship - what we can do to take care of each habitat.I really like that the book gives ideas of activities that kids can do, and discusses ways to get involved. It's great to teach kids about taking care of our environment. The pages are full color, and it's a thick book despite being a paperback. Great choice to help kids appreciate our planet better.

A fantastic look at the world's habitats for nature lovers!
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.The Wild World Handbook: Habitats is a fantastic exploration of all the different major habitats in our world, with a focus on conservation that is perfect for nature-loving children. This middle-grade nonfiction is split into 9 chapters that cover the mountains, forests, rainforests, deserts, grasslands, polar lands, the ocean, freshwater, and cities. Each chapter includes two biographies, a natural wonder, a field trip idea, a story of environmental success, a DIY project, and ideas for good stewardship in that particular environment. The field trip ideas are very interactive, prompting the reader to research or visit (or both!) a mountain or forest or ocean in the area and gives many questions to find answers to as well as how to wander, explore, and record their findings. The DIY pages are especially fun and the Stewardship pages give lots of great ways to care for or repair nature. There is lots to learn and do in this fun look at our world's habitats!

received a publisher's black and white copy
The book itself is great. The copy I received, however, was a 'not for sale' publisher's copy that was in black and white. Can't stress enough, the book itself is great! This copy just wasn't what I was hoping for.

Excellent mix of adventure stories and activism...
I really like this book. It is more than just a handbook or guide. It contains inspiring true stories of various people that have done amazing things around the world. It is a total of 9 chapters that are further broken up into small sections of just a few pages each. It ends up being more than 228 pages. There are also plenty of illustrations. It does have a good mix of diversity in the people portrayed. I began reading this to my 4 year old and he really enjoys it and I love that he is gaining a greater appreciation for the world around him.

Great reading that cultivates a love for the environment
What a delightful book! Author Andrea Debbink and illustrator Asia Orlando have created a book that is absolutely engaging. The content, the writing and the graphic design are all delightful. The book includes stories of people and places that engage the reader, while also sharing facts and challenging readers to care for the environment. So many books seem forced and preachy as they advocate for the environment. This book, however, draws the reader in and shares little known locations and people--a small mountain climber and an urban gardener, to name a few. This is great reading that grabs the reader's attention and educates them along the way. Highly recommended.
