The oak wood Grandslam Wooden Shaving Bowl with Lid is an okay wooden bowl and lid as far as craftsman ship goes. It could use more attention to polishing up and smoothing out tool marks, but it's not bad, just not even close to great. But, this is supposed to be a shave bowl with lid and that is THE problem. This particular shave bowl does not have a flat bottom, so forget about putting a puck of Tabac in it, or any other decent sized puck of shave soap with a flat bottom in this bowl. My Tabac puck could go into the bowl, but it would then sit too high and the lid wouldn't close. The bowl looked like it could house a puck of Taylor of Old Bond Street sandlwood in it, since that puck of soap has a curved bottom. You can see from the picture that while the puck fits nicely in the bowl itself, the puck is still too thick for the lid of this shave bowl to close over the top of the puck.In short, unless you are using a mini-puck of shave soap, or intend to grate soap into the bowl, do not bother buying the Grandslam Wooden Shaving Bowl with Lid. It is far too small to use as a lather bowl and it certainly can not house an ordinary puck of shave soap. It may be nice enough to put pocket change in though.

The bowl arrived in excellent condition and seems to be well made. The lid is a nice touch which will keep your soap clean when not used.However, the inside diameter is small and will only hold the smaller soap pucks. Soaps which are are in the tins or come in a box are mush larger and will not fit. This was my error when I measured before ordering. I do have the smaller pucks and will use the bowl for them. I’ll continue to look for a larger option though.

The bowl and lid are well made. It is exactly as pictured, and fits standard shave soap well. I bought this casually for my boyfriend for everyday use, and it could have easily been a given as a gift due to the packaging. It came in a nice box...all you would need is some gift wrap.

Decent enough soap holder, but the bowl is notably more shallow than most soap pucks you can buy. The handle is a bit shallow, so unless you have small fingers you're probably not grabbing it by the handle on top. If I could go back I would look for one that's a bit deeper with a handle that you can actually use.

This is a beautiful piece (although it wasn’t the right size to fit my shaving soap in properly…the lid doesn’t fit flush). Will either repurpose it or wait until shaving soap wears down a bit).
