Practical book with accurate facts from biochemistry, nutrition, and medicine
I have done a lot of research in this area. It is rare that someone with expertise in several scientific fields writes a book that ordinary folks can understand. There are, of course, many books out there with incorrect facts, and based on false beliefs and myths that are not backed up with good empirical research. This book is NOT one of them. It IS based on sound empirical research. I highly recommend it.When I first saw Dr. Cate on an interview with Bill Maher, I was immediately impressed with her knowledge of biochemistry, nutrition, and medical practice. I bought this book and read it within the next few days. I've read most of it twice.This book is hands-down the best overall book for laypersons that I have read thus far, which is a comprehensive and accurate treatment of metabolism and fat burning, AND which provides practical advice for nutrition that is consistent with proven facts. In the few places where Dr. Cate disagrees with accepted medical practice and nutritionists, she explains clearly how she has drawn her conclusions. And she is clear about what we do not know, and says so.I would not be surprised by significant pushback from big pharma, big agriculture, and big food. There are a lot of vested financial interests in maintaining profits in these big businesses. This is reminiscent of big tobacco 50 years ago, and the pushback against research-based facts about the dangers of smoking, especially nicotine addiction, heart disease, and lung cancer. I expect there will be loud critics who will try to discredit the practical advice in this book, and to discredit her. And much propaganda and commercial ads to promote the processed foods that cause health problems, and drugs to treat those health problems that big business sells.Meanwhile, many people are getting sick and eventually dying because of dysfunctional metabolisms, who are unfortunately addicted to sugar and seed oils, and who suffer from hypoglycemia. I've been a victim, too, for decades, though I'm trying to change this trajectory. It takes time and patience. There are no quick fixes.Dr. Cate is a trailblazer, and I hope her message gets out to enough people to turn around the mounting problems worldwide of unhealthy metabolisms that are the root cause of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other diseases associated with tissue inflammation. I have found her advice to be of immense practical value, and I am confident that she is on the right track. As is she. As new empirical evidence that is based on sound research further emerges, I expect that she will modify her advice accordingly. We don't know everything that is to be known, but we can act on what we do now know that is based on true facts to improve our overall health. Thank you, Dr. Cate!

Excellent Book!!
Well written and very informative regarding many of the health issues we all face today as we get older. Dr Shanahan has a grasp on what the problem is with our diets and what we need to do to fix it. I highly recommend this book so everyone!!

Informational: brain gainz.
My background: I am a sports competitor, have been eating healthy for decades, and I have studied nutrition.This book IS NOT A DIET book. Don't look at it this way. This book talks about the importance of gut health, strategies on how to fix it, and Dr. Cate breaks scientific studies and lingo down to simplistic terms. This is meant for a deeper understanding of what goes on in YOUR body and how macros are broken down by organs (and what organs do what), the importance of less processed foods, and the dangers of what some unnatural oils can do to you in the long run.It is a fantastic read. Informational and I preach everything she writes about. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy chicken nuggies and chips and this book nails everything. Remember, this ISN'T a fad diet, this is meant for information and a lifestyle change.

Best Information Out There
This book is full of information that is "real". I have eaten "healthy" and well "NOT". I live alone and since covid I am more housebound than normal. I am aware of the unhealthy, unfulfilling cravings. My brain fog, depression, anxiety, inflammation, arthritis, carpal tunnel, foot & leg cramps, numbness and IBS. I know it is food related because of the times I did eat better most of these symptoms disappeared. This book explains why and what to avoid to keep the symptoms at bay. I am hopeful for the first time in many years. I listened to the book first, now I am reading it on Kindle and taking notes. I'm sure I will be submitting another review/testimonial in the next few months. This is not a weight loss "diet" book. This is a lifestyle change, an education to getting healthy and while I believe I will lose weight, mostly I want to feel like a healthy me.

ok read, good information
The fatburn fix makes some good suggestions and explains why we may be gaining weight with what we are eating particularly crappy oils.....sunflower, soy, corn, canola, and a few others...and it made me read my labels more carefully....but it takes a while till you get the suggestions of recipes and what to eat. It's a tad repetitive. I disagree with the dairy part. I think regular dairy is so inflammatory in the human body and if you can avoid it, it's just better to....and this Dr says it's ok to consume.....when getting the inflammation out of the body is part of fixing the problem of weight gain. Other than that it's easy to read and I have been inspired to look more carefully at things I was eating particularly the cooking oils.

Its a good, makes sense, book
I purchased this book a couple of months ago with curiosity of how to lose weight and end hunger. I don't care for calorie counting and weighing food to lose weight and thankfully this book is not about that. I found the information in the book made sense and have incorporated many of the concepts presented with success of reducing my waist size by a couple of inches already. I know now what triggers my hunger and mood swings and can now concentrate better on difficult tasks. I find that I am sleeping better and have more energy to accomplish my list of to-do's. The information presented in this book is helpful if you are willing to put the effort into making things better for yourself.

A novel and very trustful approach to the obesity and metabolic syndrome pandemics.Worth the reading. My advice? Read it and put the knowledge in action!

One of the greatest books on nutrition and fat loss.
After some years trying to find out how food really Works on our body and the real way our body burns fat this amazing books arrives. Dr. Cathe explains in a very simple way how the quality of foods we eat has a huge impact on whether our body stores fat or burns fat, to make this book even better she gives us a plan, and take us step by step on the journey and to make it even easier there are simple recipes.If you're interested on diet, fat los and optimizing your health this book is a most.

A Game Changer if you want to master your metabolism
This is a brilliant book and teaches you how to master your metabolism and fix your fat burn. If you want to learn to lose weight healthily and importantly, keep it off, this is a must read! I also had the great pleasure of interviewing Dr Cate on my podcast High Performance Health, where she shared a wealth of knowledge, one of my most popular interviews!

Goodbye sugar addiction
When I read the early part of Dr. Shanahan's book about sugar addiction, I thought, gee, she's writing about me! This book is an eye-opener about kicking the sugar habit-- why you should do it and how. It takes about four to six weeks to stop eating the cookies, chocolate and ice cream, but with some discipline it's possible. I'm not overweight, never was, but I really like snacking sugary stuff. For me the biggest plus is no longer being tired during the day, longing for the next sweet, but of course not being drowned in insulin throughout the day will keep diabetes 2 at bay.
