Kind of Blue

Excellent analysis of an almost impossible to analyse genre. Ashley Kahn gets 'underneath', inbetween and inside of Miles Davis intricacies to such an extent that one must re-listen with the book in hand to hear the subtleties, both modally and harmonically including key signature debates. Huge amounts of commentary, including a nice foreward by the brilliant drummer Jimmy Cobb, from various musicians adds to the depth and flavour of Kahns book. It's been called a masterpiece...it is...that 'Kind of Blue' is seen as the 'definitive' jazz album...Kahns book is certainly its equal...I could go on but grab the book and be transported...

This book is far from new. Having had the forethought to use amazon to find it, I found and bought. Meticulously researched while keeping the eye on the ball of making this an interesting read, the author succeeds in making this a go to book on Miles as a musician in that all forming hazy but brilliant period of and where Kind of Blue took hold. Even folks who know quite a bit on Miles are bound to be surprises by certain stories. Certainly, this book clarifies some erroneous facts that are floating about his drug purging period , as well as certain studio stories . For just those facts alone , the book is worth it and the book does not stop there. For fans of Miles, this book is a must ! High recommendations Cheers LM

Essencial reading to understand the whole thing.

Great book. Love the details. I'm not a musician so I didn't understand all of the technical stuff but it definitely required reading if you're a jazz enthusiast.
