The Joy of Love: On Love in the Family Paperback – May 17, 2016

This is a great resource for couples of any faith. Do you want to honor the lifelong commitment you made to your spouse and yet need wisdom to make it more than a balancing of two individual agendas? Do you want to find a way past the monotony of the routine of your relationship? are you hoping for more than "getting by" or "not rocking the boat" or "walking the thin ice" of marriage. Here is a challenge to look deeper at your own power to change you life through the freedom of self gift. A gem of a chapter on St.Paul's "Love is patient, love is kind..." Pope Francis is a true pastor of souls who obviously has spent a lot of time in the trenches. This encyclical has garnished a lot of misunderstandings...need to read the words rather than have them filtered through the gamut of agendas. A long, thoughtful read...not quite as heavy as JP II. This is a nice little study book...got it for underlining.

The laity has spoken through the Bishops & the Holy Father has listened by giving a beautiful, compassionate and realistic presentation of the struggles families face. Yet he never negates the teachings of the Church, but gives steps to be realized over time that can lead all,if open, to understand and embrace these teachings by Mother Church by healing and tending to the confused and wounded members of the flock with compassion. This compassion and mutual commitment to work towards this goal must transverse between the faithful and the clergy in both directions for families to be strengthened. All not only in the Church but in society would benefit by reading this document.

This was an outstanding read for anyone but especially for Catholics. Pope Francis spoke beautifully and realistically to couples through the stages of engagement, newlyweds and mature marriages. He also addressed the Church's need for discernment and mercy during pastoral counseling.

I love the writings of Pope Francis. They are easy to read but always full of deep meaning. The Joy of Love is no exception. This is Pope Francis' reflections on the two Synods on Marriage and the Family. In it he lays out the Church's teachings on love, marriage and the family in a beautiful and understandable way. His reflections on I Cor. 13 (paragraphs 89-119) are inspiring.

Priests and Bishops and the Catholic Church as a whole are often accused of being out of touch with reality of everyday family life. This book will show you how in touch they really are in understanding the modern day struggles of families all over the world. It offers hope and encouragement and is a must read for all.

Pope Francis doesn't have a bad book yet. All are pleasant reading for when sleep isn't coming easy.

Reading and praying this Exhortation is a reminder of what Love between a husband and wife is all about. If lucky enough to have a family one is truly blessed. I did not find anything controversial in chapter 8 about divorce and the Sacraments?

Pope Francis writes on the need for love in the family relationships, as well as in society as a whole. Until families become more loving, that love will not be there to spread outward to the community and society in general. The family that loves has a spirit of joy.

This book and others of its kind should be compulsory reading for every person who claims to have compassion and love for everyone else in this fast disintegrating world. We must do away with greed and love of goods. We must take responsibility for all the wrong we have done to our one and only world. If we carry on as we have for the past 200 years there will be nothing left for our descendants. We are morally decaying and going fast.. Read this book and believe.

A book to take your time over,but well with the effort! Written in everyday language but causing the reader to ponder on very important matters.
