This excellent book clearly explains the current state of knowledge about the most complex and fascinating thing that makes us human - our brains. Written with a wry and light touch, but crammed all the important science. The one user manual you really must read before operation.

The first half of this book is inspirational. I had no idea about my brain and now I understand myself much better! Truthfully, it inspired me. I had to try hard because I’m not naturally a science person and there’s a lot of new vocabulary, but the effort was worth it. It’s explained well, is accessible and a real eye opener. The second half of the book is ok, but gets a bit more journalistic rather than scientific and I’m less interested in that.

Thanks to this book, I've learned how the mind works, why it works in this way, which helps me to manage my thinking and emotions much better.This book is like buying gold with very little money, it can be really life-changing and one of the best investments someone can make.Highly recommended!

I recieved this book as a gift from my wife and it is one of the best things I ever got!This book is intended for the general public, you don't need biochemistry or biology degree to get most out of it.Everything which is described in the book is explained clearly and doesn't require study or research, although I found a few paragraphs which required second pass to understand.Book is structured well, and order of topics is very good, as well as frequent references makes it very easy to read too.This book contains most recent views and understanding of human brain, and it is simply mind blowing what one is capable of with, given enough determination.I have changed my views on several subjects considerably, and this book helped in my own and my family's personal development already.I can't really recommend this book enough for anyone who is interested in more than passive consumption of media in life.

It's rare to find an engaging, easy-to-read neuroscience book. This one is exceptionally good - I couldn't put it down and finished it within a week. I highly recommend this book to all people who possess a brain and wish to learn how it functions!

I found the book easy to read and instructive. The one thing that spoils it is the frequent assertion that the brain, the most complex machine in the world has been created by a process of evolution. The amount of repetition of this assertion is irritating.
