Five-Carat Soul

Just like the other books that I have read by James McBride, this book was a fast read. It kept you wanting to go on to the next page. Although that last part of the book was somewhat different

I had not read this book and I've read and am reading others of his. Not my favorite but worth the read.

Intriguing short stories.My favorites -- the opener about the train and the pursuit of it's present owner and the orphan, the soldier and the concept of freedom. Breathtaking, thought provoking and haunting - this is James McBride at his purest and his best. A storyteller who infuses historical points of interest and historical figures of controversy -- that makes me hunt for truths that may not be there but at least satisfies curiosity.Definitely add this to your personal library!

Didn’t like book

James McBride is wonderful writer with quite a sense of humor. His characters are rich and funny. This book is a series of short stories with one theme that is seen in each story. Mr. McBride style of writing is interesting and his social commentary is revealed through his characters voices. The stories are compelling and offer such truths and wisdom. Can't wait for the author's new book. I highly recommend this book for serious readers.
