Six survivors of the 10th Regiment who fought in the Spanish-Amrican War in 1892 uncover the corrupt Colonel Graham's (Billy Zane) plan to steal Spanish gold coins desert the army and flee to New Orleans. Callng themselves the 'posse' with the gold coins in their hands. Jessie Lee (Mario Van Peebles) leads Little J (Stephen Baldwin), Weezie (Charles Lane), Obobo (Tiny Lester, Jr.), Father Time (Big Daddy Kane), and Angel (Tone-Loc). They are pursued by Graham and his gang from New Orleans into the West. Lee's leads his men to his hometown, Freemanville is beseiged by Sheriff Bates (Richard Jordan) and the KKK from nearby Cuttertown , a whites-only town. The Sheriff wants the land because of its owrth to the incming railway. This movie has plenty of gunfights, battles, fist-fights, humor, heroism, and betrayal. Also in the cast are Blair Underwood, Pam Grier, Isaac Hayes, Vesta, Nipsey Russell, Aaron Neville, Stephen J. Cannell, Richard Edson, Robert Hooks, MelvinVan Peebles, Reginald Vel Johnson, Woody Strode, and James Stacy. This movie tells the tale of the Black Americans who helped tame and settle many a western town. This is a fine western.

A good movie gives you something to think about

I got this as a Christmas gift for a friend and he loved it! He was born in the late 80's so he never seen this nor was he aware there was a film on African-Americans in the old west! Being both into history and as a Navy man, he was into this film!As for the film itself, I've watched it many times and it is worth a watch. Based on real life gunslinger Jesse Lee (played by Mario Van Peebles), it chronicles his journey from the Spanish-American war to his return to his hometown of Freedomville out west joined by a small but loyal band of outlaws Little J (Stephen Baldwin), Weezie (played by Charles Lane), Obobo (played by the late Tiny Lester), Father Time (played by hip-hop icon Big Daddy Kane), and Angel (played by Tone-Loc).While I am sure some of it has been dramatized, much of this story is based on real facts and is highlighted in the film. Take a chance on this cult-classic western from the 90's.

There's not anything I can add other than that you should watch this movie. It's well done - writing, acting, photography.

I am an old white man and I loved everything about the movie. It is entirely believable and the acting was outstanding. I will recommend this movie to my friends. Thank you for the privilege of watching it. History is written by the victors and those in power. I hope to be able to see more of movies that tell the truth about the history of our country.

Enjoyed this western. Suppose to be based on a true story. Entertaining but maybe a little far fetched just my opinion. Still very entertaining.
