I can't answer why it is made in China...except isn't just about everything... I can say this is not the official 100th anniversary gold football. Those were much more expensive & completely sold out everywhere we looked. The official 100th anniversary gold football had a smooth surface... this one has a football typical skin. But my young person that had his heart set on possessing the official 100th anniversary gold football the instant he saw it (but unfortunately didn't get one at the time he saw it & it was not an option to be found after that) is thrilled with this football & is the envy of all his friends.
