Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz), a sweet, naïve young woman trying to make it on her own in New York City, doesn’t think twice about returning the handbag she fi nds on the subway to its rightful owner. That owner is Greta (Isabelle Huppert), an eccentric French piano teacher with a love for classical music and an aching loneliness. Having recently lost her mother, Frances quickly grows closer to widowed Greta. The two become fast friends — but Greta’s maternal charms begin to dissolve and grow increasingly disturbing as Frances discovers that nothing in Greta’s life is what it seems in this suspense thriller directed by Academy Award® winner Neil Jordan.

Really good, but, and there is always a but isn't there?
This is such a good film (alright, movie if you prefer) but. . . here's my take on it: Isabelle Huppert (Greta) and Chloe Grace Moretz (Frances) are just magic together, the interplay between them in the early scenes is simply sublime (Greta playing piano, making soups, playing French music, the wining and dining, the 'hello sweetheart' and so on), and up to the point when Frances discovers the cupboard in Greta's house (I will not spoil it for you) I was captivated by the early scenes, the gentle and seductive romantic build up between the older French (Hungarian) woman (Greta) and Frances works so well. In my opinion, it would have made a magnificent film if that theme had been developed all the way through with no horror built in, it could have included Erica (Maika Monroe) as the jealous girlfriend, something along the lines of Patricia Highsmith's 'Carol'. I am not knocking it however, if you like horror films it is fine and gets my five stars but Isabelle Huppert and Chloe Grace Moretz work so well together in the early scenes, they are so much more than the horror theme it becomes. Also a minor comment, the scenes flash through a bit too quickly, more development could have been made since some of the scenes were worth savouring and it should therefore have run to much long than the 95 minutes. All credit to Isabelle Huppert and Chloe Grace Moretz who work perfectly together, excellent casting.

A very good sinister thriller.
A film about a middle age psycho piano teacher Greta who makes friends with a young girl Frances after she returns the teachers handbag she found left on a train. They become good friends until Frances discovers that the teacher does this kind of thing on purpose so people will call to her house to return her handbag. Frances then tries to end the relationship with the teacher realizing she is a dangerous unbalanced person but there is no escape from posessive Greta as she turns bitter twisted and evil towards Frances and starts constantly stalking her eventually kidnapping her taking Frances to her house tying her up and keeping her prisoner in one of the rooms. The three main actresses are very good including my favourite Chloe Grace Moretz as Frances Highly recommended.

Laughable
Since when could a random pensioner of medium intelligence bully and stalk two young women in their 20s, Chloe Moretz and Maika Monroe nonetheless? The premise beggars belief, the storyline plays like a farce until Monroe actually comes in and kills Huppert's character and saves Moretz's. Spoilers there, director/writer doesn't deserve you money.Aside from Neil Jordan's risible attempt at a "story" the casting was strong. Moretz was kinda Moretzy (no complaints), Huppert was Hupperty (not complaints) and Monroes was very Monroey (no complaints). Stephen Rea popped up for all to brief of a time. Jordan being nice to his friend playing him as some clown, bet Stephen will love you for that.Just avoid it. It's silly, it isn't realistic and I hope all those very talented people acting in it got every penny out of what is a very sad low for Neil Jordan.

ok film
nice film covering hard subject matter like so many films to this would of been a lot better as a 18 cut as it is ,it lacks the punch it should have and besides material is not for children anyway. again its to dark even on the best tv screens needed to be better lit {cost again I guess}never the less worth a watch
